Dorothy Mae Harge-Gillis-Morgan was born July 7, 1945 to Onnie Ben Harge and Caroline Harge in Cleveland, Ohio. She accepted Christ at an early age.
She received her education in Cleveland Public Schools. She would later fall in love with a man named Willie Gillis and would later become a homemaker. She was blessed with her four beautiful children that were the light of her life. Tiajuann Harge, Tondilear (Tiny) Harge, Tangela Gillis, and Torieono (Man) Gillis. She was granted custody of her grandson Durraymus when he was only five days old. This became an intricate focus for her later in life but it brought her nothing but joy.
Even though she had a heart of gold, a warm smile, and a sweet disposition. She just knew if she didn’t want to be bothered she wouldn’t answer the door or the house phone. She would just say “ain’t nothing to talk about” or “I didn’t want to be bothered”. I feel like we have all been victims of this occurrence.
She was a great cook, and demanded a clean house. I believe all of her children knew “there better not be a dish in the sink”. She woke up every morning, prayed, read her scriptures, and watched TBN for hours on end. Her sisters spoke of fond memories that they had with her. Her sister Rosie had an episode as a baby where she turned blue and wasn’t breathing. Her mother ran her to the front porch and blew on her face. But every evening Rosie remembered covering her head with her blanket to go to bed and having Dorothy Mae, Martha, and Christine come check to make sure she was still breathing.
But one of the fondest memories, I think we may have all known is her love of wine. We all know when you heard “honey” or “darling”; you knew. You just knew. But one thing I do know is between her children, grandchildren, nieces and nephews she was showered with unconditional love.
Dorothy Mae went home to be with Christ peacefully on March 16, 2024. Dorothy leaves behind her beautiful daughter Tangela Gillis and two sisters Rosie Scott (Linus) and Martha Bradley. Her lovely grandchildren LaTwana, Torrance, Torieono, Matika, Martwann, Tiajaun, Raysean, Taisha, Damika, Tabia, Tifaun, Torieona, and Mahogney.
She is preceded in death by her parents Caroline and Onnie Harge. Her sons Tiajaun Harge and Torieono Gillis, and her beautiful daughter Tondilear Harge and her dear grandson Durraymus Gillis. She is also preceded by her sister Rosie Lee (Abraham-both deceased); Solomon & (Dorothy Harge) (both deceased); Prentiss (Deceased); Betty Harge-Deceased; Malvina Harge-Fowler (Deceased); Eugene(Deceased) Christine Harge and Onnie Harge (both Deceased).
