Dorothy was burnin Memphis, Tennessee, August 16,1929 to the late Rev. Jesse and Doretha Gulledge. In 1943 at the age of 14, Dorothy along with her parents and siblings moved to Akron, Ohio, as part of the historic “Great Migration” from the south. Despite not having finished her secondary education, in the early fifties, Dorothy successfully completed comestology studies and became a licensed cosmetologist. In 1953 she married Charles Graves, a welder for Babcock & Wilcock. He adopted her children from a previous marriage(with respect to the decedent) Joan(1947-1993) and Anthony(1949-2017), and they were a family. In 1957 son Gary was born and afterwards she was able to establish her own business- a two chair beauty shop in the basement of her own home. Unfortunately the marriage ended in 1960 but Dorothy and Charles remained lifelong friends. During a brief marriage to James Hardin(1966-68) Dorothy returned to school and received her high school diploma from North High School in 1968. Later she enrolled in cashiers training, eventually becoming a cashier at Krogers for over twenty five years. In 1972 Dorothy married Owensby Pearson, a retiree from Firestone. They spent twenty happy years together until Owensby passed in 1989. Dorothy retired from Krogersa in 1990 and lived a full life of love, family, and devotion to God. She and Owensby were well traveled touring Spain, Hawaii, the Caribbean and countless cruises. She continued this tradition with her sister Ora(Tee) especially and various other family members and friends. Always loving, always giving, even at times at her own expense, Dorothy was always a living example of what it truly means to be a Christian. This world was graced with her presence, her love, and her giving. This world is certainly a much darker place without her
