Eddie Lee Hunt, affectionately known as “Chicago,” was born on July 15, 1970, in Cleveland, Ohio, to Edith Fitzhugh and Robert Hunt. Eddie grew up and was raised on Edmonton Avenue, where he spent his younger years surrounded by family, memories, and the community that helped shape the man he became.
Eddie departed this life on September 18, 2026, at the age of 56. Though his family wishes they could have had more time with him, they find comfort in knowing that after all he endured and fought through, he is no longer suffering and can finally rest.
Eddie was a phenomenal man, outgoing, strong, caring, nurturing, giving, and full of life. He had a sense of humor like no other and could bring laughter into any room. Eddie was truly the life of the party. When he walked into a room, his presence was felt. He didn’t simply enter a room; he lit it up.
Eddie was career-driven and took great pride in working. No matter what he was going through physically or what challenges life placed in front of him, he continued to push forward. His health could not take away his determination or his will to keep going. Eddie was a fighter until the very end, and his strength was something his family admired deeply.
He was also a man who genuinely cared about people. Eddie was always willing to offer advice. When someone needed guidance, encouragement, or simply someone to talk to, Eddie was there. His heart was big, his personality was unforgettable, and the love he had for his family was undeniable.
Many lovingly knew Eddie as “Chicago.” Eddie gave himself that nickname because he was always talking about how badly he wanted to visit Chicago. Eventually, “Chicago” became a name that was simply Eddie. It captured his personality and became another part of the many memories his loved ones will carry with them forever. And the women loved the name “Chicago” just as much, adding a little extra charm to the nickname and making it even more memorable.
Eddie was a devoted father, grandfather, son, brother, bonus father, and family man. He leaves to cherish his memory his only daughter, Alexis Hunt; son, Eddie Lee Hunt Jr.; bonus son, Deonte Roper; beloved granddaughter, Armani Sowell; and beloved grandson, Khalyl Deshon Wadley. He was also preceded in death by his beloved son, Jamell Thomas, whom he will now be reunited with in eternal rest.
He also leaves to cherish his memory his mother, Edith Fitzhugh; stepfather, Ruebin Fitzhugh; biological father, Robert Hunt; brothers, Robert Hunt and Jermaine Hunt; a host of stepbrothers and stepsisters; nieces; nephews; cousins; and a large extended family and countless loved ones who loved and cherished him dearly.
Eddie was a member of Philemon Community Baptist Church, where his faith and relationship with God remained an important part of his life.
Eddie’s greatest accomplishments were not simply the things he achieved throughout his life, but the people he loved, the lives he touched, and the memories he created. He lived a good life. He worked hard, loved hard, laughed hard, and gave so much of himself to the people around him.
Though his passing has left a tremendous void in the hearts of everyone who loved him, his family takes comfort in knowing that Eddie fought a good fight. He never allowed life’s challenges to stop him from being the man he was.
His work here is done. His fight is over. He is no longer suffering.
Eddie Lee “Chicago” Hunt will forever be remembered for his strength, his humor, his generosity, his infectious personality, and the light he brought into every room.
His memory will live on through his children, grandchildren, mother, stepfather, father, siblings, extended family, friends, and everyone fortunate enough to have known and loved him. And while his family mourns his earthly departure, they find comfort in believing that he has been reunited with his son, Jamell, and is resting peacefully in the presence of God.
Rest peacefully, Eddie Lee “Chicago” Hunt.
You lived. You loved. You fought. You left your mark. And you will never be forgotten.
