Eddie Lee Richardson Sr., 70, passed away on Tuesday, February 17, 2026, at Cleveland Clinic. He was preceded in death by his parents, Willie and Cote Richardson; his brother, Maurice Richardson; and his sister, Bernadette Richardson.
At 3:31 p.m. on July 21, 1955, a legend was born. Eddie Lee Richardson Sr. entered this world at Mary B. Talbert Hospital in Cleveland, Ohio. After graduating in June of 1973 from Warrensville Heights High School, Eddie developed a strong work ethic and went on to pursue his career at NEON Health Center, to which he dedicated himself for 45+ years.
A loving husband of 18 years to his wife, Vernessa, the two built a long-term partnership founded on mutual love, trust, unwavering loyalty, respect, and support. Throughout the last few months, Vernessa dedicated herself to being a full-time caregiver to her husband, ensuring that Eddie was always cared for and comforted in the best ways. “True love stands by your side on good days and even closer on bad days, and loyalty means I’ll support you through thick and thin and never leave.”
Eddie was a pillar of strength and support for his family. Together with the mother of his two children, Iris, they raised Anissa and Eddie. The ideal example of how a blended family should be, Eddie cared for Coreyaun and Carlos Gregory as if they were his own children as well. He was a devoted father and was always there to provide guidance, love, and a hearty laugh. He cherished family gatherings, and his presence at holidays and celebrations brought warmth and joy to those around him. Eddie was the true definition of a father—always praising, consistently present, spreading unconditional love, and forever supportive.
Eddie had many passions in life, including bowling, playing pool, doing puzzles, listening to ’70s soul music, and watching The Rifleman and Bonanza. He had a desire for art and photography and was a jack of all trades, talented at whatever he did. Eddie lived his life to the absolute fullest and always had a smile on his face. His sense of humor could light up any room. There was never a dull moment when Eddie and his best friend of 60+ years, Toronto Davis, were together. If you needed a good laugh, it was bound to happen when surrounded by those two. Eddie loved his sister Tina deeply, and every welcome came with a joke or an insult—a lifelong sibling bond that carried unwavering support, laughter, and unforgettable memories.
Eddie is survived by his beloved wife, Vernessa Richardson; his sister, Tina Fomby (Larry), and brother, Willie Richardson; his daughter, Anissa Paolella (Chase), and son, Eddie Richardson Jr.; and his grandchildren, Layla, Isabella, and Gianna. Eddie is also survived by a host of loving relatives, including Iris Guilfu (Corey); his stepchildren, Coreyaun and Carlos Gregory; and his step-grandchild, Marcelys Jones Jr. Eddie will be missed by a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, and many special friends.
