Eddie Sam Williams Jr. was born on July 15, 1947, in Abbeville, SC to the late Eddie Sam Williams Sr. and Louise C. Paul Williams peacefully departed this life on June 2, 2026. Eddie attended J.S. Wright High School in Abbeville, where he worked at the local grocery and also was a school bus driver. Later on, he went on to work for American Standard. Eddie relocated to Cleveland, Ohio in 1971 and worked for a parking lot in downtown area. During that time, he met his future wife Evonda (Gail) Childress. They were later joined in marriage on February 19, 1974, and raised three children. In 1974 he began his career at Cleveland Electric Illuminating Co. (First Energy) in which he held several job titles as a material handler, painter and shop mechanic. He retired after 35 years of service in 2009. Eddie became a member at Flat Rock A.M.E. Church at an early age in Abbeville. He was a true believer in God, and he later joined Affinity Missionary Baptist Church in November 1982 under the late Rev. James E. McJunkin Sr. and was later baptized in 1983. Eddie served on the Jim McJunkin Missionary Society (youth-in-mission), trustee and usher boards. Eddie being a serious family man, although full of humor, was the life of the party. He got pleasure of making Gail laugh and loved cooking for her daily. He was dedicated and hardworking to provide the best stability for his family and his six dogs. His interests (hobbies) were planning family trips, hosting family cookouts, yard work, detailing his cars and he enjoyed taking pictures on his Polaroid camera. Eddie is proceeded in death by his parents, Eddie Sam Sr. and Louise C. Paul Williams; In laws; William S. & Gloria Jean Childress; Daughter-in-law Gina Gutierrez Williams; Niece; Tracy Jackson, Nephew; William L. Childress Jr., Aunts; Annie Phillips, Bridie Clinkscales, Pearl Morales, Sallie and Parnee Martin. Uncles; Sammie, Cordell, Eugene, Willis Paul, George and Foster Williams. Eddie’s LOVE will be cherished and remembered by his Caring Wife Evonda (Gail) of 52 years, Daughter Yugunda Lee McBride (Michael) Columbus, Ohio. Sons; Steven L. Williams, Tucson, AZ, Eddie Shawn Williams, Sister; Louise Aikens, Abbeville. Brother; Harry Williams (Bettye, deceased), Abbeville. Sister- in-laws: Odessa Macon, Malika Reed and Brother- in-laws: Samuel and Lionel Childress. Grandchildren; Milan, Morgan, Savion, Cambree, DeKory, Miko, Deniko, Megan, Julissa, and four great grandchildren. Bonus daughter Sonja Jones and her daughter Azuri Jones and Aunt Eva Paul Keese. Host of relatives, nieces, nephews and friends. Best friends: Lee James Hope, John Bass, Debbie Hill, Beatrice Dunlap and Eddie J. Arthur (deceased). As we mourn the loss of Eddie S. Williams Jr., we celebrate his legacy of FAMILY values that were instilled from his parents and grandparents, meaning; to strive with strength, unselfishness, and dedication to others.
