Edward Grier was born to Jefferson Grier Sr. and Henrietta Grier on February 27, 1933, in Cleveland, Ohio. He was the second oldest of nine children born out of this union. Edward attended Cleveland Public Schools, where he graduated from East Technical High School. He confessed Christ at an early age under the spiritual guidance of his loving Mother.
Edward entered the Armed Forces after high school, proudly serving in the United States Air Force as an Aircraft Mechanic. He served overseas during the Korean Post-War Conflict. After his honorable discharge from the Military, Edward worked different hands-on jobs, where he eventually found his career path while working for the City of Cleveland for 30+ years through Cleveland Hopkins Airport as a Maintenance Mechanic and Foreman.
Edward loved to assemble and rebuild things including assembling furniture and electronics, as well as tinkering with mechanics. He was affectionately known as the neighborhood Handyman — his repair and mechanical skills were impeccable! Some of his other favorite pastimes included working with his tools, gardening, working in the yard and on autos, watching sports on television, playing the Lottery and Casino gambling.
Edward met and married his love, Annie Lee Samuel (who preceded him in death). To this union, two children were born: Anthony Edward Grier Sr. and Tracie Lynette Grier. He also shared custody and co-raised his Grandson/Son-in-Christ, Antonio Samuel. Edward was also a doting Stepdad to Stephanie Samuel. He and Annie Lee enjoyed spending Summers traveling down South to spend quality time with family. Edward also spent his early decades avidly fishing down on Lake Erie and grilling on his own hand-made barbecue grill pit every Summer. His life with Annie Lee ended in 1998 after her passing.
During his Golden Years, Edward met his current long-time companion Katherine West, with whom he also loved to travel and spend time. He and Katherine thoroughly enjoyed spending time with family, going on local and out-of-state charted bus trips to different Casinos, and celebrating New Years Eve at an annual Gala.
Edward was not a Man of many words, but when he spoke you paid attention! He was stern but caring and always doted on his grandkids! He remained super independent, still driving and living on his own until his health began to fail. Edward was called home to be with the Lord on September 28, 2025. His Legacy of hard-work, resilience, dedication, and financial independence will live on through his loved ones!
Edward’s parents, wife Annie Lee, son Anthony Sr, and siblings Leonard, John, Dorethia, Alex, Jefferson Jr., and Archie all preceded him in death.
