Elder Ronald L. Henry, Jr. received his healing on July 20, 2025, after dealing with illness for many years.
Ronald Laverne Henry Jr. was born on October 9, 1972, in Akron, Ohio, to Ronald and LaVeta Henry. He was a product of the Akron Public Schools, graduating from Central-Hower High School in 1991. In 1999, he graduated from The University of Akron with a Bachelor of Science in History. He worked for the United States Post Office from 1994 until 2011, when his health would no longer permit it.
“Ronnie,” as we lovingly called him, was one of a kind. He was an avid historian with an extraordinary memory. Many knew him to be soft-spoken, mild-mannered, and quiet. This may be true to an extent, but Ronnie was not that quiet. With his unmatched sense of humor, he could get the laughs of those around him to emerge by just being himself. While he was soft-spoken when it came to the volume of his voice, Ronnie’s life preached a sermon of God’s faithfulness loudly.
He was a faithful member of the Church of God MPGT all his life. At first, it was not by choice. He joked that he once had a drug problem because his parents drug him to church for the first years of his life. However, it paid off because as an early teen, the Lord drew him, and he realized he needed a savior. He gave his life to the Lord and accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior.
Since then, Ronnie served faithfully under the pastorate of his great, great, great aunt, Mother Alma R. Walker until her passing in 1988, under the pastorate of his father, Bishop Dr. Ronald L. Henry, Sr., from 1988 until his passing in 2005, under Elder Michael Armour, and his current pastor, Elder Henry Brunson.
Throughout these years, he briefly played the bass for the church, assisted in the church candy store, cut the church grass, accompanied and drove his father and the Executive Board on many church trips, served as church janitor, was a member of the HYPU as a child until adulthood, was a member of the choir, and served as an usher. Ronnie was called into the ministry around 1995, and a few years later ordained as an Elder. He preached many messages (or thoughts, as he called them) that edified, inspired, encouraged, convicted, challenged, and comforted the people of God. He did it with such humility, not just wanting to say anything, but rather say the thing God had for that time. He served as the National Church of God MPGT Sunday School Superintendent, and in 2025, he became a member of the National Advisory Board to the Executive Board. He also served faithfully as the Sunday School Superintendent to his local assembly for 20+ years until he departed this life. He would come over to the church when he was able to drive and even after he could no longer drive to change the church sign, clean the baptismal pool, and serve in whatever capacity that was needed. He was indeed a dedicated soul and FAITHFUL to the Kingdom, never seeking his own agenda but walking in alignment with God’s.
About 3½ years ago, the Lord laid it on his heart to begin having Bible study with his extended family. On the 1st and 3rd Tuesdays of every month, family from around Ohio and Michigan would gather via Zoom to listen to him expound on the word of God. His teachings will be greatly missed.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Ronald and LaVeta Henry; paternal grandmother, Myrtle Pople; and maternal grandmother, Betty Moore.
He leaves to cherish his memory sisters, Rachel (Michael) Brown and Mariesa (Wesley) Moore-Gentry; nephews, Ronnell Henry and Gavin Moore-Gentry; nieces, Taneal Moore-Gentry, Makenna Moore-Gentry and Michaela Brown; along with a host of aunts, uncles, cousins, church family and friends.
