Eleanor Griggs was born, Eleanor Mae Duhart on February 26th, 1943, in Macon, Georgia. She was the youngest of ten children born to the union of Annie Mae Webb-Duhart and Reverend Ruel C. Duhart.
Eleanor graduated from Ballard-Hudson High School in Macon, Georgia. She attended Fort Valley State College in Fort Valley Georgia, where she met life-long friend Bonnie Cherry.
In 1963 Eleanor moved to Akron, Ohio. That’s when she met her other life-long friends Janice Davis, Verlyn Cogburn and the late Rita Roache’. She was employed by Reiter Dairy, Family Life and retired from Litchfield Middle School. Although Eleanor is no longer with us, we still have Bonnie, Janice and Verlyn as extended families.
Eleanor loved cooking and entertaining family and friends. Her specialty was potato salad and cabbage. In 1965, Eleanor married Floyd Griggs. They were married for eighteen years until his death in 1983.
She’s preceded in death by husband Floyd Griggs, parents Annie Mae and Reverend Ruel Duhart; brothers James, William, Zary and Bartholomew Duhart and sister Catherine Duhart Simmons.
Left to cherish her memories are special daughter Marvel Richardson; brother Harold Duhart; nieces Sandra Minor, Mechelle Simmons Miller and Jan Fowler; nephews Joe Simmons III and David Dimmons; and many other nieces, nephews, family and friends.
