Obituary – Elizabeth Butler
January 25, 1943 – August 21, 2025
Elizabeth “Betty” Butler, beloved mother, sister and aunt, entered eternal rest on August 21, 2025, in Cleveland, Ohio. She was born on January 25, 1943, in Youngstown, Ohio, to the late Maylon and Alice Rogers.
Elizabeth graduated from South High School in 1961, where she formed lasting friendships and laid the foundation for a life devoted to family, faith, and service. After graduation, she began her professional journey at Ohio Bell, where her strong work ethic quickly earned her the respect of colleagues and supervisors. She faithfully served there for 25 years before beginning a second career with H&R Block, where she dedicated more than 20 years of service. She also made time to get her Associate of Applied Business degree from Cuyahoga Community College. Her career reflected her values of perseverance, integrity, and professionalism.
Elizabeth was a faithful member of Affinity Missionary Baptist Church, where she served as a devoted servant of Jesus Christ and became a graduate of the Bible Study Program. She lived her faith not only within the church but also in the way she treated others with kindness, compassion, humor, and grace.
She treasured time with her family and friends, always making sure those around her smiled and felt loved. Elizabeth enjoyed crocheting, learning, reading, crossword puzzles, and cheering on her beloved Cleveland Browns.
Elizabeth is survived by her only child, Rodney Butler; her siblings Richard Shivers of Warren, OH, Delores Shaw of Chicago, IL, Robin Samuels of Alexandria, VA and Lauren Mitchell of Cleveland, OH; along with a host of nieces, nephews, extended family, and dear friends. Her memory will live on in their hearts forever.
She was preceded in death by her parents and six of her siblings: Loretta Haynes-Rose, Curtis Haynes, Thomas Haynes, Janice Gilliam, Elaine Rivers, and Maylon Rogers Jr.
Elizabeth’s life was a testament to hard work, devotion, and the love of family. Though she is no longer with us in body, her spirit and legacy will continue to inspire and guide those she touched. Her journey reminds us of the strength of faith, the importance of kindness, and the everlasting bond of family love.
