Elizabeth Marie Linear-Talley, 52, of Akron, Ohio passed away June 20, 2020, of causes related to kidney disease. She was born May 11, 1968, at Akron City Hospital to Catherine Austin-Linear and Raymond Eugene Linear, Sr. Liz professed a belief in Jesus Christ and was baptized at an early age. Throughout her travels, she was an active member of many churches including, Good Shepherd Baptist Church (Akron, OH), New Beginnings Community Church (Charlotte, NC), and Faith Temple Church of The Living God (Akron, Oh).
She took her education very seriously and was a product of the Akron Public School System. She graduated from John R. Buchtel High School in 1986, where she was the Class Secretary. She earned her bachelor’s degree In Elementary Education from one of the premier HBCUs, Fisk University, then went on to obtain her Master’s in Education and a Doctorate in Education from Trevecca Nazarene University.
She started her teaching career educating fourth-graders at Indian Trace Elementary School in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. She went on to teach for 23 years in urban, rural, and suburban schools in GA, OH, TN, and NC before she retired due to a second bout of Kidney Failure after a kidney transplant that lasted 5 years.
She became a member of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc in 1993. Throughout her travels, she was an active member of several chapters including Omicron Kappa Zeta in Atlanta, GA, Mu Rho Zeta in Akron, OH where she served as President, Pi Zeta, Nashville, TN and Delta Zeta in Charlotte, NC.
She has one son, Donte Andre Linear who was a blessing throughout her life. He fathered her beloved grandchildren, Jalisa Linear, Jason Linear, Lyric Linear, and Melody Linear.
In 2011, divine Intervention united two childhood classmates together when Bruce Talley contacted her on Facebook. They were married on August 4, 2011, in Charlotte NC.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Catherine Austin-Linear, maternal grandparents, Arthur Austin and Elizabeth Johnson Austin; paternal grandparents, William James Linear, Jr. and Ellen Turner Linear; older sister, Tracey Linear.
She is survived by her husband, Bruce Talley; son, Donte Linear; father, Raymond Linear, Sr.; sister Jacy Linear; brother, Raymond Linear, and grandchildren; special Friends: Agnes Molette Grant-Jackson, Angela Rose Williams, Angela Ford-Glen, JoAnna Traylor-Becton and Rene Rucker- Williams. There is a host of family, friends, and former students who will sorely miss Liz.
