A Charge to Keep I have – A God to Glorify – A never dying soul to save and fit it for the sky.
I was born October 13, 1936. My parents Abe and Louise, and of course, my dear mother who raised me, Lula Mae, all preceded me in death. Abe and Louise had another daughter, my dear sister, Alvenia Shomo, and my niece Theresa Shomo, also preceded me in death.
With the union of Abe and Lula Mae, the Lord blessed me with two more loving sisters, Dolores, and Cheryl.
I am a product of the Cleveland Public School System. I graduated from John Hay High School. I received my Bachelor of Science and master’s degree in Education from Cleveland State University. I started as a secretary for the Cleveland Public School Board and soon began my career as an Educator in the Cleveland Public School District, giving 37 years of service and retired from this profession in 1993.
I have enjoyed traveling with my sisters to diverse countries and states. Also attending Sunday School Congresses and the National Baptist Conventions in many different cities.
For 72 years I had been a member of Second Mount Carmel Missionary Baptist Church. I served in different capacities until I could no longer fulfill what the Lord had charged me to do. I have been a teacher and superintendent in Sunday school. I am also a member of the Nurses Guild. My teaching capabilities were not confined to Second Mount Carmel; my passion to teach God’s word had enabled me to share my ministry at many seminars and retreats throughout Ohio and New York.
I have served in numerous positions. President of the Liberty District Congress,
Dean of Education for The Liberty District Congress and at Second Mt. Carmel. I have also served as General Secretary for the Nurses of the National Baptist Convention, and Bible Class Instructor for Second Mt. Carmel.
I was born and raised in church, I believed in God, I accepted Jesus as my personal Lord and Savior. I have received the Holy Spirit by my confession of faith in Jesus Christ. I’ve been proud to say that I am Saved, Sanctified, and filled with the Holy Ghost. And the blessed result of this, I am now living with Him forevermore!!!
As I think back, God has truly blessed me. All of you have been there in good times and bad. It seems as though we took marriage vows with each other – through sickness and health till death do we part. I’m so thankful to God that He allowed you to be in my life.
Before I complete MY LIFE story, I need to let you know that I have a friend and His name is Jesus. He’ll give you a newness of life by accepting Him in your heart. While you may think I’m gone, remember what 2 Corinthians 5:8 states “To be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord.” If you want to see me again, please make Jesus your intimate friend.
I leave to Celebrate my memory:
My loving and devoted sisters, Dolores Shomo & Cheryl Shomo-Green, my brother-in-law, Darnell Green. My niece, Terri Jennings (Ben Jennings), My nephew, Michael Wayne Shomo (Anna Shomo). A host of great & great, great nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
