A Charge to Keep I have – A God to Glorify – A never dying soul to save and fit it for the sky. I was born October 13, 1936. My parents Abe and Louise, and of course, my dear mother who raised me, Lula Mae, all preceded me in death. Abe and Louise hadContinue Reading

She was the most inspiring and wonderful teacher ever. I’m 48 now and was just thinking of her and sad to see she has passed on. I wrote her letters years after my sixth grade with her. She always loved my handwriting as I did hers. She treated me very special especially since it was the year my father had passed away in 1987. I truly feel her spirit visited me as I have not thought of her in many years and suddenly she came to mind a month after her passing. Rest in heavenly peace !!

Mere words will never describe the impact that Sis. Ellaree Shomo had on my life. I was one of her protege's. Like Timothy, a son of Paul, she mentored me in the faith and encouraged me in the Lord. I loved her slow, stearn, yet eloquent speech. Listening to her teach on a passage was one of my life's biggest rewards. When the National Baptist rolled out the Certificate of Progress Program, she encoruaged members to take advantage of the courses to grow in the faith. I was fortunate enough to finish the first level (10 courses) at her prodding and start level 2. Sis. Ellaree Shomo was kind of a big deal. She was loved my many. I remember her giving her "Echoes" on behalf of the Missionary Society. 5th Sunday Missionary days; Annual seminars, Conventions and just having the knack to sit around after church. She wasn't rushing and she knew if anyone wanted to talk with her, that she'd stay long enough to have a chat. When people show you how they feel about you, believe them. I believe wholeheartedly that she loved me. Just like Jesus, she demonstrated her love for me. It is a feeling that won't be duplicated. But I have prayed to God for more chances to show others how much they mean to me. May I carry the Word of God in my heart and be infectious in sharing His love with others. Your legacy for me is this, you were a woman to emulate. You were highly favored among women. As Paul wrote in 1 Corinthians 11:1 "imitate me as I also imitate Christ." I will love you forever. Two words: Thank you.

I extend my sincere condolences to the family of Ellaree Shomo. She and I worked together for over ten years at O.W. Holmes Elementary School and I visited her often at her home on Roanoke Ave., because I lived just a few streets away. I didn't keep up with anyone who knew her, so I was shocked to see this notice of her passing. I am so sorry.
