Elmer Michael Smith born February 27, 1952, of father Elmer Smith Jr (deceased) and Mother Shirley Ann Smith (deceased) went home on December 15, 2018. Some called him Mike, but to family and close friends he was better known as Mickey.
Born with Spina Bifida, Mickey was paralyzed from the waist down since birth. Although he wasn’t expected to live beyond 6 years old, he made it to his teens, with the prayers of family.
Mickey was passionate when it came to sports, mostly baseball and loved the Cleveland Indians. Being so passionate about baseball and watching his brothers/cousin play in little league, Mickey became inspired to excel and become a Coach and Little League Manager for many years. Cleveland Indians management heard of Mickey’s diligence as a Baseball Manager and invited him and his team to an Indians game.
Mike graduated from East High School in 1970 and pursued college at Kent State University and also DJ’d at the University of Akron.
Because of his limitations in getting around, Mickey developed a passionate hobby as a CB Radio User, learning all the lingo, as he communicated with truckers as far as his CB waves would travel. When the family would visit with Mickey, living at his Grandmother’s home, Mary Peavy Eagle, either a baseball game was on or he was speaking in a mic, “Breaker, Breaker, come in!”
Mickey leaves behind his siblings Thomas Gary Smith (Chicago Illinois); Ronald Keith Smith (Houston, Texas ); Robbin Renee Green and Sheree’ Annette Smith(Virginia Beach, Virginia ). Stepmother Barbara Thornton-Smith. Aunts and Uncle. Nephews DeErick (Lisa) Green (Fayetteville, Arkansas) and Devin Green (Atlanta, Georgia). great-nieces and nephews.
