Emerson Hollingsworth was born on June 30, 1932, in Heard County, Georgia from parents Clara and Emerson Hollingsworth Sr., who preceded him in death. His brothers Harold and Winston Hollingsworth, Charles, Francis, and Clifton Stevens, and Joan Kelly have also passed on.
Emerson was united in marriage to Barbara Harding in 1959. From this union, he has two daughters and one son, Rochelle, Simone, and Yul.
At a young age, Emerson accepted Christ. He graduated from Central High School and attended Griswold Institute was enlisted into the United States Army on July 25, 1950, and served in the Korean War and was a Combat Veteran, paratrooper, and boxer in service.
A decorated War Hero receiving The Combat Infantry Badge, Korean Service Medal, w/1 Bronze Service Medal, and National Defense Service Medal. His most significant duty was 187 Airborne.
Not only did Emerson serve our country with honors, but he also was a local hero. On October 28, 1965, he teamed up with two neighbors to rescue two invalid women from their burning home at 2834 E. 78th St., acknowledged by the USPS. Emerson Hollingsworth took care of his family, took care of his wife and children and was a caring soul. He was even known to have rescued animals.
Emerson made his transition on Thursday, September 28, 2023, at 1:30 AM. He leaves to mourn: wife Barabara, daughters Rochelle (Earl deceased) and Simone, son Yul (Briget), sisters Catherine Ringo, Selma Kennedy, Jean Stevens Davis, Revaughn Davis, Elijah (Joan Kelly deceased) and Dr. Keith Kelly and family, grandchildren Bruce Jr., Brent, Yul Jr., Amanda (Archie), Orrin, David, devoted grandson McKinley, great grandchildren Cameron, Brent, Brooklinn, Braylin, Briya, Demonte, Archayla,Joshua, Auset, Arzariah, Arielle, and Arraiya, and many nieces, nephews, relatives, and dear friends.
