Eric Gene Hayes was born November 2, 1968 in Birmingham, Alabama to Lucy Mae Needham and to the late Gene Hayes. After a lengthy illness, Eric transitioned on Saturday, January 24, 2026.
During his early years, Eric lived with his maternal grandparents, Mrs. Erah Barber and Mr. Louis Barber, until their passing. Then, he moved to Cleveland, Ohio to be with his mother. Eric graduated from high school and enlisted in the Army. He was trained as a medical and dental specialist and earned expert marksmanship. He was awarded a National Defense Service Medal before receiving an honorable discharge.
Eric earned degrees in higher education while battling his illness. His cousin, Freda Johnson, helped tremendously during his illness. He leaves a sister, brother and a host of relatives and friends to cherish his memory.
