Ethel James was born on February 19, 1936, to Clearence and Hattie Merchant. She attended high school in Minden, West Virginia where she later met and married Peter R. James and migrated to Akron, Ohio and started her family.
Ethel worked at the Holiday Inn and retired after 30 plus years of service. She enjoyed spending time with her family, always being there for her family and friends. Ethel also liked going to the casino, going to the movies, attending dinner parties, shopping and enjoying life to the fullest.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Peter R. James; sons, Jessie, Frank and Curtis James Sr.; Sadie, Lovlean, Lorine, Rose, MattieJean and Aretha.
She is survived by her daughter, Anita Johnson; sons, Kevin Lames and Terry James; son in-law, Keith; daughters in-law, Melissa, Carla and Margaret; 11 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren; sister, Adabea (Newark, New Jersey); a host of nieces, nephews and many other relatives.
