Ethel L. Daniel On Saturday, March 9, 2024, Ethel L. Daniel ( Allen), our Mother, Grandmother, Great and GreatGreat Grandmother, saw her Savior beckoning and transitioned from this life to life eternal. She entered this world in Faunsdale, Alabama on June 15, 1928, to Willie and Mary Allen (Hunter). She was the sixth of seven children in this close-knit family. Although her formal education ended in the 8 the grade due to the lack of opportunity and poverty, she still developed a voracious love of reading and journaling.
In the fall of 1947, the beautiful 19-year-old Ethel joined her heart in marriage to the very dapper Walter L. Daniel. They were part of the great migration north, settling in Akron, Ohio, in 1954. From this union, seven children enhanced their lives: Dorothy, Altha, Ethel, Trudie, Walter Jr., Edward, and Mary.
Mother’s search for a deeper relationship with God led her to 401 Robert Street Church of God (now Arlington Church of God) in 1957. There she made another heart connection with the saints that became extended family as she grew in the understanding of being a follower of Christ. She went to work sharpening her gifts of service. She served in many capacities for the church: Sunday School and Vacation Bible School teacher, Missionary Leader, Church Council, Diaconate Board, Christian Women Connection, team member of the food pantry, President of the Senior Fellowship and Prayer Warrior extraordinaire! Her quiet attention to ministering to the needs of the sick and shut-ins was her signature service.
She took pride in raising her brood of seven into productive adults in the bend of 7th Avenue. She was a doting Grandmother of nine, delighted Great Grandmother of five, and Great-Great Grandmother of one. Her presence at graduations, births, functions of every form and fashion was always life-affirming.
Her cloud of many witnesses awaiting her arrival home include her parents, Willie Allen and Mary Hunter; husband Walter Daniel; brothers, Willie James Hunter, Norflet Hunter, Robert Hunter; sisters, Marie Palm, Beatrice Pressley and Willie Mae Mims; and granddaughter, Aja Danielle.
She leaves many loved ones to adjust to her absence and relish in their memories of her love: her children, Dorothy & David Evans, Altha Daniel, Ethel Lillie, Trudie & Lawrence Latson, Walter Daniel Jr., Edward Daniel & Crystal Starks-Daniel; and Mary & Judy Mims-Daniel; her grandchildren Veralyn Evans, Amber & Ralph Roebuck, Jasmin Evans, Carmen Lillie Ford, Darnell Daniel & Sarah Antioquia, Gia Price, Maya & Osahar Latson and Mercy Mims-Daniel; great grandchildren, Davin & Ashley Evans, Daudi Evans, Carter Daniel & Faith Antioquia, Kingston Roebuck, Averi &Taytum Ford; great-great granddaughter Aubrey Evans; and Bonus children, Selaria Woodall and Hulon LeGrier as well as a host of nephews, nieces, church family and friends.
