The Lord received His servant, Eugene “Gene” Jones who passed away peacefully

surrounded by his loving family. He was 76 years old.

Although he battled a serious health challenge ,through his unwavering faith and courage ,Gene remained steadfast and unmovable , coming out a hero and victorious  until the  Lord called him home. 

Gene was born on December 18, 1945 to Clyde and Rosie Dell Jones in St. Louis, Missouri. He was the youngest of four and the only boy. His three sisters took pride in caring for their baby brother,  however, when he graduated from high school, the  roles  reversed and he became  their protector until the end. Gene was a graduate of Ashtabula High School.. He was very active in sports, he ran track, played basketball, and was recognized as the first black quarter back with a promising future. However, being the selfless man Gene was , his heart for his family led him to accept a full time job as a lineman supervisor at CEI. He later furthered  his education at Kent State University,Ashtabula Branch  and upon graduating ,received an engineering degree. He joined the Warner & Swasey as an electrical engineer and  later excepted a position with Toyoda Machinery  U.S.A. as an engineering technician instructor.

But it was at the Warner & Swasey company that he was introduced to the love of his life, Alvenia ,by her sister, LaVenia Mack.

Smitten by her radiant beauty and  dazzling personality, it’s been said that they didn’t date very long and married quickly. Their endless love for one another  lasted 46 years. Alvenia describes Gene as her Gentle Giant, a phenomenal man, patient father, loving grand father affectionately known as “Poppie”, faithful freind, and the best husband EVER!!!!!!

Gene  joined Good Shepard Baptist Church  in 1994 and accepted Christ under Pastor Eddie L. Hawkins dynamic leadership. It was here  his love for the Lord  grew even stronger. Gene’s love for the Lord was his primary passion. He was dedicated to teaching the teens the word of God every Sunday  in Sunday School. Gene was also an exemplary teacher of “For the Life of Christ Series” to the Good Shepard Church family.  Outside of his love for his family, Gene had another passion; It was the game of golf. He was a member of one of the  first black golf clubs in Cleveland , Match Limited. He loved the game so much that he frequently took golf trips with his friends as well as organized and  led the golf team at his church. With great patience he’d teach anyone willing to learn the game. Anthony, one  of his sons , caught the fever and became a carbon  copy of his Dad on the golf course.  Shelbie,  one of his granddaughters excelled in the game as well and currently plays on her High School team. Gene’s  love for the Lord, dedication to family, patience  and calm demeanor  will always be carried on through his legacy.

Gene is preceded in death by his parents Clyde and Rosie Dell Jones, and his daughter Denise Michelle Dixon. He is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 46 years, Alvenia . Children, Sheirrod, Anthony (Deborah),

Sean(Gia),Christopher (Gale ) Erik (Bethany) one sister Willietta Bunch Marbury of Ashtabula Ohio, 16 grandchildren Shane, Dallas,Caitlin, Kevin,Brandon, Deanna,Anthony ,Dravyn, Jawan ,Sydnie, Zahara,Shelbie,Sean Erika,Noelle and Taylor , 15 great-grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins,family and dear friends,  Minister Reiles Berry and 

Tom and Dee Coleman.
