Evangelist Gertrude Mae Butler departed this life on earth to be with her Lord and Savior on Saturday, July 22, 2017 at 2:45 p.m. surrounded by family and friends. Born Thursday, October 6, 1932 in Norwalk Ohio to the late Edward and Dorothy Butler, she was the seventh of ten children born to this union. She was preceded in death by father, James and mother, Dorothy Butler; brothers, Arthur, Harold, and Robert Butler; sister, Bertha Whack, Elizabeth Harris and two sisters who died in infancy.
Gertrude attended Akron Public Schools and at the age of 60, she returned to school and received her General Education Diploma, she said “You’ll never too old to get your education”, she went on to further her education by attending Berean Bible Institute and obtaining an Associate’s Degree in Christian Education.
Gertrude was a faithful, dedicated and committed prayer warrior of the First Apostolic Faith Church, where she served as Assistant Sunday School Superintendent. She was affectionately known as “Evangelist Reverend Doctor Butler” because she took care of the church, her Pastors, and everything else.
She worked throughout life, eventually retiring from The F. W. Woolworth Company as Kitchen Manager. Never one to sit around she volunteered in the Foster grandparent program until her health made it impossible to continue.
She leaves to mourn her passing, three children, James (Awilda), Tonya, and Andre Butler; grandchildren, Antonio, Fernando, Jou’se, Deirra, Randi, Andreyah, Andre, Brittany, Brennon, Aubreyona, and Brett; sister, Ann Lou Butler; brother, Jack Butler; nieces, nephews and a host of other family and friends.
