Evelyn Collier was born in Rochelle, GA on August 15, 1940, to Kattie Mae and Robert Sutton.
She migrated to Cleveland, OH in the early 1950’s and graduated from John Hay High School in 1958. She continued her educational journey by earning her dietitian associate degree from Cuyahoga Community College in 1994. This led to her establishing an impactful career at the Cleveland Clinic for nearly 40 years in the dietary department. In her personal life Evelyn was devoted to her faith and accepted Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior. She was a member of the New Community Bible Fellowship church (formerly Grace Fundamental) where she served as an usher.
Evelyn exemplified what it meant to be a true Matriarch and Queen. In her life she displayed elegance and grace through her unique fashion sense, her eye for interior design, and how she handled everyday challenges. She was always put together from head to toe, and never missed a beat with her trendsetting style. Her passion for design was evident through her elaborate flower arrangements, home decor and her ability to incorporate unique patterns and textures to make her home feel elegant.
Evelyn, also known affectionately as Shawty, Shady Boots, and of course Granny displayed quick wit and a fiery attitude, but also contained one of the biggest hearts. Granny was always available to help family, friends, church members tenants, etc. She always wanted the best for everyone no matter what bind it could’ve put her in. Through these actions she instilled so many values and memories into her family. She was always a joy to be around through her laughter, side eyes, funny dances, and she will forever be engraved in our hearts. If time heals all, then it will truly take an eternity to repair this loss.
Evelyn departed this life Sunday December 29, 2024. She is preceded in death by her late husband Isaiah Collier Sr. (married 2/4/1967) and her eldest son Melvin Antonio Thomas.
Evelyn leaves to cherish her daughter Melva Collier, son Isaiah Collier Jr, grandchildren Miya Jones, Mario Thomas, Maurice Collier, Iyannah Brown, and great grandchildren Brielle Collier and Evelyn (Evie) Collier along with a host of other nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.
The family of the late Evelyn Collier acknowledges with deep appreciation the many kind condolences and prayers given in thought and in person. You all have been a source of solace and comfort for them during this difficult time.
