Evelyn Washington entered eternal peace on January 23, 2025, after a short illness. Evelyn was born December 7, 1934, in Fairmont, West Virginia to Lucion and Lottie Washington. After the death of her father Lucion, Lottie married Sirdaston Clemons.
At the age of 11, Evelyn and her family moved to Akron, Ohio where she attended Akron Public Schools.
She was baptized at the age of 13. She was a member of Providence Baptist Church, and later became a member of Peoples Baptist Church in Akron, Ohio.
Evelyn was employed at Akron Towel Supply, B.F. Goodrich, and Chrysler Corporation.
Evelyn moved to Columbus, Ohio where she became a member of Refuge Missionary Baptist Church. She sang in the Refuge Sanctuary Choir and was a former member of The Revival Choir and The Love Choir.
Evelyn was a Deaconess, a member of The Senior Mimes and The Senior Ministry.
In Columbus, Evelyn was employed at Mary Haven and later at Ohio State University Hospital Fawcett Center where she retired. After retirement she returned to work in The Foster Grandparent Program.
Evelyn’s favorite game shows were “Let’s Make a Deal” and “The Price Is Right”.
Evelyn was preceded in death by her Father Lucion Washington, Mother Lottie Clemons, Stepfather Sirdaston Clemons; sisters Maryette and Annette Barrette; stepbrother Grant Clemons.
Evelyn is survived by son, Howard B. Washington Sr. (Rita); three grandchildren, Howard B. Washington II, Danisha Harper-Young (both of Akron) and Danielle McCombs (of Georgia); one great-grandson, Jezsiah of Georgia; one brother, James (Phyllis) Clemons of Akron; special cousins, Jeanette Evans, Charlotte Andrews, and Linda K. Welch; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Special friends include Francine Scott and Saretha McClure (Her Beautician).
“I’m gone from this old body into a new body and resting in the arms of My Heavenly Father so do not mourn and grieve over me because I’m gone to a better place.”
