Flen Robinson Jr., affectionately known as Sonny, was born in Murphysboro, Illinois on May 5, 1948. He was the second child of Hattie Mae Robinson and Flen Robinson Sr. He departed this life unexpectedly on May 4, 2024.
Flen spent his early years in Illinois before moving to the Cleveland area. He attended Cleveland Public Schools and graduated from Collinwood High, where he played on the Railroader football team. Flen worked for nine years at the General Motors Chevrolet plant and retired from Judson Park after working there for many years.
Flen was a huge sports fanatic, enjoyed bowling and loved getting together with family. He loved to barbecue and work in the yard. He also believed in God and was an avid Bible reader. Flen was part of a special Birthday Group, along with his childhood friends, that would get together regularly to spend time celebrating each other. He had a special relationship with Trish and San, who are his nieces but were more like daughters to him. The genuine love between Flen, his sister Marilyn and his brother-in-law Erskine was apparent to anyone who witnessed it.
Flen leaves to carry on his legacy his love of fifty years and wife of forty Geraldine Robinson; daughter Shere’ (David) Moore and sons Keith Roberts, Clarence (Etonya) Roberts Bey and Chantez Moore Sr.; grandchildren Mone’ Roberts (Timothy) Walton, Dayveon Drake, DaJne’ Hubbard, D’Ron Brown, Rahzin Roberts Bey, Amaria Moore, Letraize Moore and Chantez Moore Jr.; seven great-grandchiildren; sisters Rozella Robinson, Marilyn (Erskine) Hunter, Denise Gregory, Lutricia White, and Carla Watkins; brothers Danny Robinson and Barin Riase; nieces Patricia (Durant) Jenkins, Cassandra (Rexford) Upchurch, and Keisha Wilkins; best friend Raymond Howard and special friends Allen “Big” & Pat who would visit and send cards faithfully; and a host of other relatives and friends. Flen was preceded in death by his parents Hattie Mae and Flen Robinson Sr., sisters Helen Robinson, Dorothy Mae Hodge, Geraldine Robinson and brother Donald Robinson.
