Frank Means Jr was born in Eutaw, Alabama on October 30, 1946 to Elmira Means and Hollie Cotton. He was reared and taught how to be a man by his step father Clyde Alford. He accepted Christ and was baptized at Saint Matthew Baptist Church in Clinton, Alabama. Frank was taught the importance of education and worked hard while in school. He became a star athlete in football, baseball . Frank was offered several college scholarships. He graduated from high school in 1964 from Greene County Training school.
He relocated to Cleveland, Ohio and was grateful for the warmth and hospitality provided by the family of Dan and Bertha Dunlap. In 1964, Frank gained employment at J & L Steel. After moving here, Frank joined Christland Baptist Church under the leadership of the Late Reverend Anthony Hendricks now Reverend Bradley Stokes where he was the Chairman of the Deacon Board and a devoted member until his passing.
Frank met the love of his life Janice Williams in 1967. The two lovebirds married in 1968 and had 3 beautiful daughters, Pamela, Angela, and Roslynn. He was so proud of his daughters and would always boast about how all three of them graduated from college and earned their Master’s Degree’s.
In his leisure time, Frank enjoyed playing softball in a few citywide leagues. Being the great father he was, Frank often took his children to enjoy the games. He developed a lot of lifelong friendships that became family.
Frank started working for Ford Motor Company in Brook Park during the early 80’s. His coworkers often spoke about how he was so pleasant to work with. Frank was always ready to quickly solve problems, offer good advice and help people navigate through Brook Park. He enjoyed his job so much, he retired twice…actually three times.
After retirement, he enjoyed spending quality time with his grandchildren Alex and Jayla. Frank started a successful landscaping business and could often be seen cutting grass in the community. He liked to garden, had a definite green thumb and grew watermelon, greens and tomatoes in his backyard. He loved to travel home to Alabama, took several cruises with his wife Janice, attended trips to the
Amish Country with his Christland Family and spent quality time with friends and family. And don’t forget to stay off his grass! Don’t drive on it, don’t park on it and definitely don’t throw trash on it. Because of his commitment to family, people often came to him for counsel and comfort. As a long time 52-year Warrensville Heights City Resident, he leaves a legacy of friends and family to remember him.
He leaves to cherish his memory his loving and devoted wife Janice Means, three daughters Pamela (Dr. Edmund Turner), Angela, and Roslynn, grandchildren Alex Nathaniel Turner, and Jayla Gabrielle Golsby. He also leaves to cherish 4 sisters, and 5 brothers. Frank had a very special God Daughter & Son Phyllis & Sanders R. Williams and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, family and friends that adored him and will miss him dearly.
