Born May 19, 1941, to Joe and Velma Curry in Talladega, Alabama, Franklin, affectionately known as Bevo, was raised in Akron, Ohio. He married Nina Gillespie May 1, 1965. To this union, Toni and Vernon were born.
Bevo attended Akron Public Schools, graduating from East High School in 1959. Following graduation, he began his studies at The University of Akron, while also serving in the United States Navy Reserve. While newly married, Bevo was called to active duty fall of 1968 and was honorably discharged in 1970.
Upon his return to Akron, he re-enrolled at the University, working at Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company and serving as an assistant coach at John R. Buchtel High School. In 1975, he earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Education from the University of Akron and secured a teaching position with Akron Public Schools. Bevo also worked in the family business, J. Ostell Curry Realty from 1977 to 1998.
He was a member and Elder at Phillip’s Chapel CME Church. He was also a proud member of Elks Pride of Rubber Town #1595.
Bevo was proceeded in death by his parents, Joe and Velma Curry; and his wife of 50 years, Nina.
His life and legacy are celebrated and cherished by his daughter, Toni (Dirrick) Hicks of Lithonia, GA, son, Vernon “Buster” Curry of Akron; sister, Margaret (Ed) Pruitt of Chula Vista, CA, brother, Jay (Christine) Curry of Akron; devoted grandson, Kenneth, of Akron; grandchildren, Veronica, Nia, Nadia, Jada and Machai; great-grandchildren, Kenneth Jr., Fatima, Casino and Kobii; special cousin, Beverly Kelley; special daughter, Kimberly Leland Brown; as well as a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
