Fred Charles Crosby, Esq. (56) passed away on August 20, 2016. Born in Cleveland, Ohio, Fred was the beloved husband of the late Carla Renee’ Crosby and dedicated father to his only daughter, Monique K. Crosby. He was also the loving son of Fred and Phendalyne (“Sweetie”) Crosby and brother of James Richard Crosby, and sister Llionicia (“Nici”) L. Crosby.
Crosby was a graduate of Beachwood High School, and received his Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration from Northwood University in Midland, Michigan. His successful career in the legal profession began shortly after graduating from the renowned Cleveland State University, Cleveland-Marshall College of Law.
As an attorney in the state of Ohio, and partner in his own private practice, Pomerantz & Crosby (with long-time friend Dave Pomerantz), Crosby was known as the quintessential litigator who got results. Ever at the cutting edge, Crosby handled a variety of both State and Federal Cases, ranging from DUI and cyber, to White Collar Fraud and murder. In addition to criminal cases, Crosby dealt with a number of Domestic Relations cases, including contested and uncontested divorces, dissolutions, custody disputes, and child and spousal support.
Crosby’s integrity, no-nonsense demeanor in the courtroom, and dedication to the pursuit of justice for all, would become his hallmark as a criminal defense attorney, and earned him the utmost respect from his colleagues, business associates, Municipal, State and Federal political officials, and community leaders.
During his admirable career, Crosby held a number of high-profile positions, including serving as Assistant Prosecutor for the City of Cleveland. Crosby was also an Acting Judge for the Shaker Heights Municipal Court. Crosby made history when he successfully obtained the first conviction for stalking in the State of Ohio, earning him a special feature on WEWS-TV5’s “Morning Exchange” program.
Crosby also belonged to a number of organizations, including serving as President of the Cuyahoga Criminal Defense Lawyer’s Association, Vice President of the Cuyahoga County Bar Association, and numerous Bar committees. He also served as Chairman of the Fenn Fund (a subsidiary of the Cleveland Foundation) and on the Board of Directors for the Ohio Motorists’ Association, City News, and Crosby Furniture. In addition, he was an active participant on the Scholarship Committee, of the Beachwood City Schools’ P.T.A. In 2003, Crosby was inducted into the “Beachwood Gallery of Success” for his personal, professional and community accomplishments.
Known as a kind, loving, generous and funny person, Crosby will be extremely missed by a whole host of family, friends and business associates.
