Fred H. Cooper, Jr. departed this life peacefully with the comfort of his wife beside him on June 1, 2018, in Kent, Ohio at the age of 57.
Fred H. Cooper, Jr. was born in Ravenna, Ohio on October 12, 1960, to Annie Ruth Terry Cooper and the late Fred H. Cooper, Sr. Fred was a man with a heart of gold and a great capacity to love everyone he encountered. He was known to many people by various nicknames: Fast Freddy, Freddy, Slim, Haystack, Iceberg, and Iceberg Slim and he was loved by the masses.
Fred lived a life of no regrets; he loved and lived hard and fast, ergo the name Fast Freddy! During high school, he was very popular and was crowned the Ebony Affair King during his senior year, in 1979. Fred loved to dance and was always light on his feet. One of his favorite songs back in the day was Heavy D’s “Over Weight Lover in the House”. He loved music, especially R&B and Gospel. His favorite scripture was Romans 3:23. Fred was baptized and remained a member of New Mount Calvary Baptist Church, which he loved dearly.
He loved to drive around town and do favors for neighbors, friends, and especially for senior citizens in the community. He ran so many errands for one elderly neighbor that she gave her car to him. Fred enjoyed relaxing by watching WWE Wrestling, Batman, Bonanza, Gunsmoke, The Andy Griffith Show, The Three Stooges, Wendy Williams, Let’s Make a Deal, Dr. Oz, Good Times, The Potter’s House, and his Cleveland Cavaliers.
On September 1, 2012, Fred married the love of his life, Deborah Jo Clark. His wedding day was the happiest day of his life! Few men have faces that beam with love and anticipation as Fred’s did on their wedding day. Fred and Deborah were godparents to many children, including his nephew/”son” Phillip Davis, Joey Mercury, Tanya Dukes, Della Maxwell, Kyla Hackney, and Khyree Hackney. The other special children in Fred’s life were the Nasser girls; Kadijah, Kimoni (Wiggly), and Kierra.
Fred is survived by his wife, Deborah Jo Clark, his mother, Annie Ruth Terry Cooper, and siblings Judy, Lisa, and Terry (Nancy). Also cherishing his memory are Lenabeth Locke, Aliscia Buford, Kenyon (Victoria) Buford, Phillip Davis, Courtland (Amanda) Dixon, Kevin Dixon, Joseph White, Nathan Logan and a host of other relatives and friends.
