Fred Smothers, at the blessed age of 78, peacefully transitioned to his eternal rest on August 22, 2019, at the Arbors at Fairlawn after a long illness. Fred was born on July 13, 1941 in Macon, GA to William and Ella Smothers.
He attended Akron Public Schools, The University of Akron and he was a Veteran of the United States Army. He retired from the City of Akron Water Dept. due to illness. He was a kind, friendly and jovial person who enjoyed dancing, drawing, reading and going to the VFW.
He was preceded in death by his parents, William and Ella Smothers; brother, Tyrone; nephew, Eric Smothers.
He leaves to mourn his passing, daughter, Marshella Smothers; grandchildren, Gabriana and Gregory Clipper of Phoenix, AZ; sisters, Shirley Smothers-Essick, Lula J. Watts; stepsister, Marsha Wilson; nephews, Derek Smothers, Dennis Watts; nieces, Tiffany Alexander, Wendy (Winford, Sr.) Dowdy all of Akron, OH.
