Freddie was born February 17, 1938, in Carroll County, GA. He moved to Cleveland, OH at age 16 to live with maternal aunt, Evelyn Holliman. He graduated East Technical High School in Cleveland, and in 1961 entered the United States Army. Honorably discharged in 1963, he returned to Cleveland and led a life marked by dedication to family, friends, church, work, scholarship, civic engagement, and community service. Most noteworthy are his graduation from Cleveland State University in 1975, his position as Chief of Probation for the City of East Cleveland for over 20 years, his membership in National Association of Blacks in Criminal Justice, and later in life his position as Chaplain for Disabled American Veterans.
Freddie knew the Lord and church was an integral part of his life. He became a member of Calvary Presbyterian Church in 1972 and later a founding member of New Life at Calvary when the churches merged in 2013. Freddie was an Elder of Session, Youth Church Leader, Adult Sunday School Teacher and Men’s Association member among many other roles he held at the church. In addition to his church activities, he coached little league, read to children at the library, and was a mentor to many. He took great joy in pouring into the lives of youth and young adults alike.
In his quiet time Freddie loved to read, but could also frequently be found enjoying baseball, bowling, or fishing. He will be remembered by family and friends for his generosity with his time, energy, and resources as well as his infectious smile and sense of humor. He was deeply loved and will be greatly missed.
