Geneva Drone-Keaton-Shedrick was born in Waycross, Georgia to the late Bishop T. W. Drone and Mother Clara Drone. She went home to be with the Lord Sunday, August 20, 2017 at Cleveland Clinic/Akron General Medical Center with her dedicated, loving and faithful companion and husband Deacon William Shedrick at her side.
She was a graduate of East High School and the University of Akron with a B.S. degree in Elementary Education. She was employed at the Wright Patterson Air Force Base in Dayton, Ohio; as a pharmacy technician at Summa (then City) Hospital; as a psychiatric aide at Sagamore Hills Children’s Psychiatric Hospital as a teacher and parent liaison for the Akron Public Schools’s Head Start Program; she retired as a Akron Public School Elementary school teacher, after many year’s of dedicated service where she dearly loved working with the children.
Geneva accepted Jesus as her Lord and Savior and was baptized and filled with the Holy Spirit at an early age.
She was a charter member of Faith Temple Church of the Living God and faithfully served in numerous ministries for over seventy years. These ministries included; Sunday school teacher, founder of Children’s Church ministry, Home and Foreign Mission worker, Hospitality outreach ministry, Women of Destiny and founding member and soloist in the adult choir. She had a special ministry to the families of the bereaved; she could be found attending the home going services for everyone with whom she had any connection.
She loved opening her home and heart to entertain and serve her extended family, church members and community friends. She also loved cooking and delivering meals to the sick and shut-ins in the community. She provided in-home care for her elderly mother and disabled daughter for many years, for which she received the “WOMAN OF COURAGE AWARD” from the Multiple Sclerosis Society of Summit County in 2005. She loved to cook, decorate her home and her church, knit and crochet items for others, she just helped others in any way she could.
She was preceded in death by her parents, daughters; Karla Lyn Keaton and Kimberly McCoy; sister Vernell (Richard) Roberts; brothers, Thomas (Julia) Drone and Bishop David (Remonia) Drone. She is survived by husband; William Shedrick; daughter, Freda D (William) Ford; granddaughter, Kendra McCoy; grandson, Desmond McCoy; great grandson, Kurron; brothers, Leaston (Minnie deceased) Drone, Alphonso (Geraldine) Drone, Jerry (Delores) Drone, Bishop Benjamin Drone all of Akron and Paul (Clara) Carson of Chicago, IL; close friend; Dr. Brown, adoring nieces, nephews, The Faith Temple Family and a host of family and friends.
