George Anthony Cox Jr., affectionately known as “June” or “Junebug,” was born on October 6, 1992, in Cleveland, Ohio, to his loving parents, George Cox Sr. (Tone) and Sonya Calloway.
From a young age, June was full of life, mischief, and heart. He gave his life to Christ early on and was known for his hilarious antics, off-the-wall pranks, and a magnetic personality that could light up any room. He had a gift for making people laugh and never met a stranger—he was the life of the party, every time.
June attended Rhodes High School in Cleveland before furthering his education at the Mississippi Job Corps Center, where he completed training in basic information technology and professional customer service—skills that reflected his dedication and ambition. Throughout his career, June worked in various general labor roles and eventually became a transportation supervisor at A’Diar Serenity House LLC, where he took pride in his work and leadership.
June split his time between Cleveland and the Metro Detroit area, always keeping close ties with loved ones in both cities. One of the most memorable moments of his youth was when he boldly declared he wanted to go to Las Vegas for his birthday just to visit the place where 2Pac died—and off he went. That was June—bold, spontaneous, and full of unforgettable stories.
But above all, the greatest joy of his life was his daughter, Gianna A. Cox, born on July 10, 2018. He often said, “She’s the best part of me,” and those words couldn’t be more true. His love for Gianna was deep, genuine, and unwavering. She was his world.
On October 19, 2024, June departed this life, leaving behind a legacy of laughter, love, and unforgettable memories.
He is survived by his devoted mother, Sonya Calloway, and his proud father, George Cox Sr. (Angela); his beloved daughter, Gianna Cox; his siblings, Aikia Calloway (Kee-Kee), India Calloway, Destiney Mills, Carissa Cox, and G’Mauri Cox; his grandmothers, Rosalind Hood and Georgia Edwards; along with a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, and lifelong friends who will miss his energy, his jokes, and his heart.
Though June’s time on Earth was far too short, the impact he made will last a lifetime. He will be remembered as the one who made us laugh the loudest, love a little deeper, and live a little bolder.
May his soul rest in peace, and may his memory live on through the laughter and love he brought into our lives.
