George Anthony Griffin, affectionately known as Georgie, was born on November 20, 1957, in Cleveland, Ohio, and was called home on Saturday, January 24, 2026. He suffered a massive heart attack and transitioned peacefully without suffering.
George gave his life to Christ at a young age and attended Shiloh Baptist Church, where his faith helped shape the man so many came to know and love.
George was well known on 82nd Street and Cedar Road, a place where his presence, personality, and opinions were familiar to many. He was known for being very opinionated and never shy about sharing his thoughts—often in no uncertain terms. His outspoken nature even earned him frequent “leaves” from Facebook, which became a running joke among those who knew him. Beneath that bold exterior, Georgie had an incredibly big heart.
George had a passion for anything electrical. He loved working on FireSticks, was a self-proclaimed computer geek, and viewed every technical issue as a challenge waiting to be solved. He also enjoyed playing Bid Whist and relaxing to cool jazz.
George was educated through the Cleveland Public School System and proudly served in the United States Army. He dedicated his professional life to public service, working for the City of Cleveland as a Sanitation Worker, Postal Carrier, and later as a Policeman.
Sabrina Wilson was the love of his life, and from their union was born his cherished daughter, Ijeoma Uchenna Griffin. George was lovingly known as “PaPa” to his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, all of whom he adored and cherished deeply.
George was preceded in death by his father, Ardis Griffin Sr. (Felicia), and the love of his life, Sabrina Wilson.
George leaves to mourn his passing: his daughter, Ijeoma “Buffy” Griffin; bonus children, Seferino Griffin, Shanye, RayDell, and Bubba; his mother, Dolores Griffin-Graves;
his father, Marcellus Eugene Molten (Mary); siblings, Thelma Griffin, Ardis Griffin Jr., Terrell Griffin Sr., John Griffin Sr., Tracy Griffin, and Mandisa Molten; grandchildren, Jeree’, Jenae’a, Je’Mya, and Jebre’a Griffin; great-grandchildren, A’Miyah Montgomery, Michael Montgomery, and Naomi Wilson; along with a host of other relatives and dear friends.
George will be greatly missed, but he leaves behind a lifetime of special memories for all who knew and loved him. Every act of kindness—no matter how big or small—is greatly appreciated.
