Gladys Brown (Finch), affectionately known as Baby Sis, was born on December 13th, 1942 to the parentage of Malissa Finch and Alonzo Finch in Fairfax, Alabama. She was one of five children, all of whom preceded her in death: brothers Mitchell (Shirley), Willie (Mary-Ann), and Alonzo Jr (Sarah) and sister Betty Jean (Robert).
Gladys married George Brown, Jr. in 1964, four children came from that union. Wanda Jean, Sharon Charnise, Tracey Lynne, and Demarco “Buddy.” As a military family, they lived and traveled the United States until George’s passing in 1978. At that time, Gladys brought her children back to Cleveland, making Wickliffe, Ohio their home.
Gladys confessed Christ at an early age. She was always a faithful follower of the Lord. She finally found home when she joined Covenant Baptist Church, now Restoration Ministries of Greater Cleveland. As one of their founding members, she developed a special bond through Christ with her pastor, Christine Smith. She also served as the chairperson of the hospitality committee until she fell ill.
After an extensive illness, on Wednesday, January 31, 2024, Gladys was called from labor to reward. She leaves to cherish her memory and rejoice in her new life; three daughters: Wanda (Myles), Sharon (Dwain), and Tracey; her loving son: Demarco; two grandchildren: Jason (Keyona) and Jasmin (Christian); great grandson: Jason Jr; special nephews: Sean (Nikki) and Eric (Adrian); nieces: Malinda (Charles), Deliska (Neville), Rhonda, and Lynetta, who preceded her in death; her best friend, Cecila; a host of bonus grandchildren, and many treasured family and friends.
