Gladys Wimberly went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, September 1, 2021. She was born on February 16, 1941, in Mississippi to the late Mr. B.J. and Virginia Brunson.
She attended and graduated from East High School. She enjoyed a long career as a nurse’s assistant, serving and caring for families at St. Edward’s Nursing Home. She retired after 43 years of dedicated service in 2012.
She loved basketball and could tell you about players on any NBA team. When the Cavs won, she cheered, but she had favorite players everywhere. She would do anything for anyone and is still considered one of the dear “Mothers” on Greenwood Avenue and was known as “Moms.” She was giving to a fault. If you needed rest, she had a bed; if you needed food, she prepared a meal. She was strict and commanded the utmost respect, but you gladly gave it to her, and she truly earned it.
She raised her children and taught them the value of hard work. Being a strong and loving working mother, Gladys purchased a home where she lived and raised her children. Her love for them was steadfast, and she encouraged them to excel in all their endeavors. Indeed, she was a virtuous woman. We, her children, and grandchildren, all call her blessed; and what a blessing it was that she was ours!
She was preceded in death by her parents; son, Garland Wimberly; brothers, P.J. Brunson, Edward (Janet) Brunson, Paul Brunson, Willie (Alice) Brunson; sisters, Ertha Miller and Ann Garrett.
She leaves to cherish her memory, sons, Aaron (Patricia) Wimberly, Thomas “Butch” Wimberly, and James (Carmen) Mcvay; sister, Ethel Brunson; brother, Walter “Sonny” (Dorothy) Brunson; sister-in-law, Mary Brunson; grandchildren, Destiny Wimberly, Alaysha Wimberly, Tatum Wimberly, Tanyia Wimberly, and Nondi Mcvay; great-grandchildren, Kali Brooks and Makai Brooks; special niece, Shirley Walker and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
