Grady Wright Driskill, Jr. was the eldest of seven children born to Grady Wright Driskill, Sr. and Helen Zora Driskill on June 28, 1941. A lifelong resident of Akron, Ohio, Grady, Jr. matriculated through the Akron Public School System graduating from North High School in 1959 where he excelled and lettered in football, basketball, and track. In his early years, Grady, Jr. was a member of the Original Church of God in Akron, Ohio along with his parents and family.
Following in his father’s footsteps, Grady, Jr. worked for many years at Grady Driskill Paving & Contracting, a company founded by Grady, Sr. Grady, Jr. ran the asphalt crew as well as pouring concrete and getting on his knees to smooth out the concrete poured to make sidewalks and concrete driveways. Some of those sidewalks and concrete driveways are still existing today! After leaving his father’s company, Grady, Jr. worked for several years with Highway Asphalt Company, and later working as a Foreman for Kenmore Construction Company from which he retired where he was known as the best asphalt raker in the City of Akron.
Grady, Jr. departed this life after a long illness on January 13, 2022. He was preceded in death by his parents, Grady and Helen Driskill, sister, Maude LuEllen Driskill, son, Grady Wright Driskill, III, and grandson, Bradley Harvey.
He leaves to mourn his passing two daughters, Garnet Harvey and Yolanda (Denis) Meade, three brothers, Kenneth (Cheryl) Driskill, Reginald Driskill and Pastor Dwight (Deborah) Driskill, two sisters, Elizabeth Ann Driskill and Evangelist Sharon Dunn, special niece, Minister Kim (Kevin) Spigner, special nephew, Antonio “Tone Payne” Mitchell, daughter-in-law, Ruby “Tina” Driskill, one aunt, Arlene Brown, 7 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, great-great nieces, great-great nephews, cousins and friends.
