Because she loved being around her family, her friends, and other people, she truly believed in following the “golden rule” … do unto others as you would have them do unto you.
Gwen was born and raised in Cleveland, Ohio to southern parents, Moses and Inez Bardlabon, on October 12, 1946. She accepted Christ at an early age and was baptized at her mother’s church, Parkwood C.M.E., while also attending Greater Abyssinia with her father and sister Evelyn.
After receiving a great education in the Cleveland Public School System, Gwen went on to Ohio University and Cleveland State University. She later joined C.S.U. in the Department of Electrical Engineering as an Administrative Assistant and Graduate Coordinator. While there, she married Booker T. Yarbrough, Jr. and to this union, their beloved daughter Catherine was born.
Because Gwen loved to cook, and was a good cook too, she always wanted to feed you. This was her way to explore new foods, to sustain you, to delight you, and to unite you with others. It was “soul” stirring.
Not working well with the clock, Gwen really had to be organized (which she was) in order to volunteer with, and serve her favorite organizations, which were the American Red Cross (like her mother did before her), aarp, her community, and her church.
Enjoying the social life and entertaining, she also became involved with the Sophisticated Ladies Social Club, who traveled and gave different functions.
Always one to ‘express’ herself, Gwen enjoyed bowling (back in the day), playing cards and scrabble with her family and friends, and reading to relax. Even while doing all of this, she still wanted to find anyone who would challenge her at miniature golf.
We will miss her love of life, her love of family, her love of friends, her love of people, but most of all, we will miss her.
She leaves to cherish her memory her loving daughter Catherine Taylor, son-in-law Larry Taylor, grandson Brandon Taylor, special friend sandy willis, and a host of nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
