Gwendolyn (“Sister”) Denise Young, age 56, went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, April 16, 2020.
Gwendolyn was born on June 9, 1963, to the late Estella Zachery and Curtis Toney in Akron, Ohio. She was a twin and the third eldest of five children. She attended North High School located in Akron. She moved to Winston-Salem, North Carolina in 2001, but relocated back to Akron in 2007, where she resided with her current spouse, Craig Barrett.
She was a dedicated employee at Fussy Cleaners in Akron. She enjoyed maintenance/janitorial work which lead to her receiving a Maintenance Certificate in Winston-Salem, North Carolina from 2003-2007. She accepted Christ at an early age and was a member of Kingdom of the Gap Missionary.
Her hobbies included reading, watching television, singing, dancing, walking, cooking, and making others laugh. She devoted much of her time and energy to caring for family and others within the community. She was a brave and phenomenal woman who will truly be missed.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Estellar Zachery (Akron); twin brother, Anthony Richardson (Akron); grandparents, Chester and Mary Roberson (Akron).
She leaves to cherish her memory, her daughters, Jammie Richardson and Ja’Mesha Richardson of Akron, Ohio; siblings, Cynthia (Pumpkin) Slaughter, Kathy (Pee Wee) Richardson and Michael Richardson of Akron, Ohio; grandsons, Faizon Richardson and FaiQuan Richardson of Akron, Ohio; great-grandchildren, Aria Richardson, Major Richardson and Pryce Richardson of Akron, Ohio; six nieces, eleven nephews and a host of relatives and friends.
