Herman (Buck) Bogen Jr. was born on October 20, 1942 to Herman Bogen Sr. and Rosemary Bogen, in New Orleans, LA. He was raised among 13 siblings, and graduated with honors from Southdown High School of Houma, LA. He cultivated a creative mind that, later, lead him to pursue a career in Electrical Engineering at Southern University of Baton Rouge, LA, graduating with honors with a Bachelor’s degree in 1968.
Herman’s career lead him and his family to Chicago, Illinois, where he began to study and convert to Islam under the teachings of The Honorable Elijah Muhammad. It was then that he changed his name to be known as Hammad M. Yasin. He later moved to Cleveland, OH to begin his career at Gould as an Engineer. He also worked as a math substitute teacher, a professor at the Muslim School for Children and NASA.
Hammad was preceded in death by his parents, Herman Sr. and Rosemary Bogen; his fraternal grandparents, Arthur and Josephine Bogen; maternal grandparent Oddie Ward; one adopted son, Earl Fletcher; one grandchild, Khalil (Mikey) Yasin; three brothers, Freddie, John and Joe Bogen; three sisters, Lucille Mahoney, Ora Mae Martin and Catherine Bogen.
He leaves to cherish his memory his wife, Latosha Evans; devoted ex-wife, Lutfiyyah Yasin of Thibodaux, LA; his beloved children, Herman Bogen III/Hammad L. Yasin of Akron, Raushanah Yasin of Barberton, OH and Aqueelah (Thaddeus) Rohilliard of Thibodaux, LA; four adopted children, Khalil Yasin of Akron, OH, Kamal Yasin, Hesta Fletcher both of Thibodaux, LA and Tahanae (Kenneth) Yasin of Vacherie, LA; four brothers, James, Ronald (Mable) and Barry (Octavia) Bogen of Houma, LA, Alvin (Marie) Bogen of Gibson, LA; four sisters, Johnsilee Nisby, Debra (Rufus) Conley, Margaretta (Charley) Livas all of Gray, LA and Brenda VanBuren of Harvey, LA; 18 grandchildren, 27 great grand-children, and 4 great-great grandchildren; as well as a host of other family and friends.
