Hazel Cossey, went home to be with the Lord, after a long illness, surrounded by family, April 1, 2019, at the blessed age of 93. Even during this time, she touched many hearts and made others smile.
She was born on November 10, 1925, in Clayton, Alabama, but resided in Akron for 67 years. She enjoyed many hobbies such as arts and crafts, working in her yard and was an accomplished pianist. She was also a devout member of Saints Temple for over 45 years, where she served as President of the Usher Board for 30 years. Hazel was also a member of the (ICUA) International Christian Usher Association.
Hazel worked for the Department of Human Services and retired after 20 years of service.
Though she was a compassionate caregiver to many, she truly had a love for all children and was a foster parent for 30 years. Hazel was a loving wife to Robert Cossey and devoted mother to Robert Earl, Meredith Dean, Vanessa, and Terry Steve.
The last of her generation, she was preceded in death by parents Handy and Lula Lampley; husband Robert Cossey; siblings; Lula Herring, Hezekiah Lampley, Handy Lampley Jr., Walter Lampley, Bessie Lampley, Nellie Clark, Stella Parmer, ST Lampley, Seffie Lee Parmer, Ann Gibson; sister in laws; Fannie Floyd and Aronna Herron.
Left to cherish her memory are sons Robert Earl Cossey, Meredith Dean Cossey, Terry Steve (Brenda) Cossey and daughter Vanessa Cossey; grandchildren Sharice Talley, Jermaine Cossey, Terry Cossey Jr., Taylor Cossey, Haley Cossey, Morgan Cossey, Robert Cossey II, Nathan Cossey, 6 great-grandchildren and a host of very special nieces, nephews and cousins.
