Helen G. Speller, age 72, passed away on March 22, 2023.
Helen G. speller was born July, 31, 1950, to Lewis and Helen Ellis Both. Helen was the second child of four children, she was affectionately called “Sister.”
Helen was named after her mother, she was 8 years old when her mother passed, and 18 years old when her father passed.
She peacefully transitioned on March 22nd at Lankenau Medical Center in Wynnewood, Pennsylvania.
Helen accepted Christ at an early age and was baptized at the Historical Baptist Church. She attended Sunday School and sang in the choir. She later became a Girl Scout and a avid swimmer. She attended the Cleveland Public Schools, and was blessed to receive her diploma from the Vocational Guidance Rehabilitation Service.
After graduating she went to stay with her late aunt Evelyn C. Thomas, and developed her cooking skills, along with sewing and baking. She loved being around her siblings, especially her brother “Buddy” you couldn’t tear them apart.
Years later Helen joined the Church of God Saints of Christ, bring her children along. She loved her children and often spoke of their accomplishments. At a time in her life she needed assistance with her growing family, she was blessed to receive the help from the late Mrs. Dora Dodson, a mother and grandmother who faithfully played an intricate part in their lives until she was able to reunite with them.
In the early 80s’ Helen moved to Philadelphia and became employed at Philadelphia International Records for over a decade. In 1989 Minister Elder James A. Speller the love of her life and they were joined in holy matrimony for over 30 years. She then became a member of The First Tabernacle Church in Philadelphia. As a ministers wife she held many positions; Bible Studies Outreach programs which supported ministries in Jamacia and South Africa to name a few. As her illness progressed, she had an opportunity to speak of her illness at the Com Cast News Broadcast in Philadelphia. She continued to read her bible diligently, prayed and lifted up all.
Helen was preceded in death by her husband Minister Elder James A. Speller, parents, Lewis and Helen Ellis Both, brother Lewis Ellis (Gwen), her sister Josephine E. Jackson, and brother-in-law Billy J. Jackson.
She leaves to cherish her loving memory, four children: Lamont D. Dodson, Robert L. Goldsborough (Wanda), Carrie B. Goldsborough, Terrance J. Goldsborough, one sister Patricia Ellis, sister-in-law Gwen Ellis, and a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins and her Philadelphia extended family and Ministerial Associates
