Helen Hunt Pryor was born to the parents Pete and Alvertice Taylor on April 12, 1930, the second of three girls. She grew up and went to school in East St. Louis. She left East St. Louis to continue her education. She started at the City College but soon was recruited to work for the Post Office. She met and married James Pryor. They raised four children Arland, Terence (who preceded her in death), Beverly and Marc Sr.
She accepted Christ as an early age. After moving to Cleveland, she joined Mount Pleasant Baptist Church under the leadership of Rev, D.C. Calvert. Later she moved her membership to Good Shepherd Baptist Church. There she joined the Mother’s Board. She became a highly requested speaker for many churches’ Women’s Day Program.
During her life she served her community and church. She worked for the United States Postal Services for 36 years, starting as a scheme thrower rising to the level as Branch Manager.
After she retired Helen became very active socially and politically serving on AARP’s State Legislative Committee as Vice-Chair. One of her biggest accomplishments was working with and serving as Senior Intern for Congressman Louis Stokes.
Having lived a beautiful life she was a loving, giving and caring person who touched many lives. Her strength and courage will always be remembered. Her life was rooted in her faith in God, a strong work ethic and unconditional love for her family. She lived a full life adorned in memories and wrapped in happiness.
She leaves to celebrate her life, children; Arland, Beverly and Marc Sr., grandchildren; Terrence Jr, Rasheedah, Marel, Marc Jr., great-grandchildren; Nathalieh, Walter V., Goddaughter; Diane Jofferion, and a host of nieces, nephews, and friends
Today we choose not to mourn as others mourn but celebrate the fullness of a life well-lived.
