In Loving Memory of Henry L. Evans
August 4, 1933 – September 7, 2026
Henry L Evans was born on August 4, 1933, in Fort Valley, Georgia, to the late Henry Evans and Maggie Mullins. On September 7, 2026, at the age of 93, Henry peacefully passed away at Laurels of Massillon nursing home, surrounded by loved ones.
As a young man, Henry left Georgia and made his way to Akron, Ohio, where he was custodian at Akron City Hospital. It was during this chapter of his life where he met and married Millie Jeannette Wells. Together, they welcomed two sons, Henry L Evans Jr. and David D Evans, and began building a family whose generations would become an important part of Henry’s legacy.
Henry later moved to Columbus, Ohio, where he began a long career with Ohio Bell. A hardworking and determined man, Henry did not stop there. He also established his own cleaning business, spending additional hours cleaning nearby offices and stores. He remained with Ohio Bell through the company’s many transitions and eventually earned his retirement.
After years of hard work, retirement allowed Henry to slow down and spend more time doing the things he enjoyed. He could often be found tending to his garden, making his own wine, or enjoying one of his favorite pastimes of bowling. Henry also enjoyed spending time with his son and grandchildren. These simple pleasures were part of the life Henry built over his many years.
Henry experienced many chapters throughout his 93 years. From his beginnings in Fort Valley, Georgia, to building a life and family in Ohio, his journey was filled with hard work, family, friendships, and memories that will live on through those who knew him.
Henry was preceded in death by his parents, Henry Evans and Maggie Mullins; his sisters, Ora and Eula; his aunt, Perlissa; his son, Henry L. Evans Jr.; Millie Jeannette Evans; and his cousin and dear friend, John W. Dent Jr.
He leaves to cherish his memory his son, David Evans; David’s sister Charlotte Andrews; his grandchildren, Tiffani Evans (Deshawn), Ryan Evans, Dion Evans (Sitera), Mikhaya Evans, and Joseph Knight; and his great-grandchildren, Mya Knight and Isaiah Joseph Henry Knight. Daughter in laws Andrea Evans and Erin Morris -Kabiya.
Henry also leaves behind a host of nieces, nephews, extended family members, and family friends whose lives became part of his own throughout the years.
As we say goodbye to Henry, we do so with gratitude for the 93 years of life he was given and for the memories that remain. His story continues through his children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and all those who had the opportunity to know him.
The family would like to Thank Crossroads Hospice and the Laurels of Columbus and Massillon for the care they provided to Henry. Rest peacefully, Henry. Your journey here is complete, but your story lives on through the generations you leave behind.
