Hezekiah Black was the fifth of fifteen children, born to the late Mills and Thelma Black on December 14, 1937 in Pulaski County, Virginia.

Hezekiah received his education at Blacksburg High School in Virginia, where he later graduated.  At an early age, he began what would become a life long journey to Cleveland, Ohio, where he met the late, great, Laura Horthy.

They both professed their love of Christ as members of Elba Missionary Baptist Church.  Shortly thereafter, they married.  From that union, they conceived five beautiful children, Sherry, Hezekiah Jr. (deceased), Debbie, Donna (deceased) and Curtis.

Hezekiah began his career as a truck driver at BFI and then on to Harry Rock Trucking, where he would later retire.

He enjoyed spending time with his family, going to the race track, cracking jokes, cutting his lawn and maintaining the neighborhood. 

Hezekiah was a churchgoing, God fearing man.  He was a kind and loving spouse, an amazing father to his children and a superhero to all of his grandchildren.

On June 10, 2021, Hezekiah Black received his wings and entered into eternal rest.  “To be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord.”

He was preceded in death by his parents, Mills and Thelma; wife, Laura; son, Hezekiah, Jr.; daughter, Donna; eight brothers, Charles, William, Harvey, Manous, James, Windsor, David, Big June and five sisters, Gretchen, Evelyn, Mary Frances, Sally and Betty.

Hezekiah leaves to cherish such wonderful memories, two daughters, Sherry and Debbie (Tommy); one son, Curtis (Sherine); two sisters, Mary and Dollie; ten grandchildren, Talia, Desmond, Mercedes, Tyshon, Caprice, Andreana, Darren, Deshon, Wesley, Curtice and twenty-four great grandchildren, whom he loved dearly, as well as a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.
