Horace Man Hunter, age 91, passed away on February 7, 2023.
Horace Man Hunter was born in Cleveland, Ohio to the union of Bertha and Milton Hunter, both parents preceded him in death. Horace was the sixth of 11 children.
During his childhood Horace attended Cleveland public schools. At the age of 18 he enlisted in the Army. Horace was proud of serving his country. He would always tell stories of how he traveled the world while he was in the military. Horace fought in the Korean war where he was wounded. He was honorably discharged from the Army with a Purple Heart.
In 1953 Horace married Agnes Rosebon. From this union, one daughter, Sharon was born. In 1975 Horace later met Carolyn Mixon, who preceded him in death. He became a father-figure to her three young children, Tonya, Edward, and Lori. From their loving relationship Horace and Carolyn had two daughters (twins) Carinn and Carmen. They were the beat to his heart.
Horace was employed at Ford Motor Company where he worked until he retired. While working at Ford Horace met his wife Janet Brooks, who preceded him in death. They married April 10, 1982. Horace gained two children, Saundra, and Terry.
Horace, affectionately known as “Hoarsie” or “Hunter” loved his family and his family loved him. He had a unique laugh that was infectious. Horace was a devoted father. Making sure that his children got a good education was very important to him. He would always make sure that his children and grandchildren got back and forth to school. If they didn’t have a way, he would take them. He was crazy about his grandchildren Caisja, whom he called his “brown cookie” and Jordan, whom he called “big man”. Horace enjoyed working in the yard and planting flowers. He could often be found at home in his man-cave watching old Western movies, sports, or the news. His favorite store was Aldi. He liked to buy snacks and fruit and bring them to his children and grandchildren.
Horace Hunter was called home to God at age 91. He leaves to mourn his passing his Children: Sharon Franklin (Donnie), Carinn Mixon-Hunter, Carmen Mixon-Hunter, Edward Mixon, Lori Mixon, Saundra McIntosh, and Terry Brooks; Grandchildren: Ashley Carroway, Caisja Chandler, Jordan Edwards and Jamir Simpkins; Sister, Shirley Hunter; Brothers: Gene Hunter (Ruth), and Daniel Hunter; Sister-in law, Dolores White and a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins.
