Eugene was one of a kind. He loved with intention and provided insight and brilliance. He moved with the ambition of god instilled inside of him. He was kind and well respected within his community. Wherever he went, he was well dressed in any weather. Regardless of rain, snow or sleet; and whatever the agenda was, he made sure his aura shined.
Hughlet Eugene Thompson was preceded in death by his parents, Pinkney Kirby and Ida Mae Kirby; his brothers, Thomas and Marvin; and his sister, Joanne Veal.
He leaves to cherish his memory his sisters, Earline Kirby Smith, Annabelle Foster, and Betty Jo, as well as eight nieces and nephews.
My Grandad was the protection of the Thompson legacy. The glue to our family. He was incredibly compassionate when it came to making sure everyone and his family was taken care of.
My Grandad was by far one of the wisest men that I’ve ever met. I never knew a man who could speak so much truth with his stern yet nurturing tone. He spoke, as if every word of wisdom was his own testimony.
When you think of a free spirit, you think of someone who has the ability and ambition to unapologetically be themselves. Someone who knows the differences of rights and wrongs; yet has the ability to uphold all accountability in every aspect of every person and life form.
He had the ability to teach so many people to unapologetically be themselves. He was everyone’s number one fan and supporter. He lead by example on how to love and how to believe in yourself.
I will always reminisce with the smell of pipe tobacco and incense mixed with the smell of freshly brewed coffee.
He always loved his movies. His westerns and his sci-fi films blaring at 7 AM. The universe cannot paint a better picture of someone who truly enjoyed waking up with the sun as much as he did.
He loved his babies! Meechie, Eureka, Noot Noot, NyNy, KK, ZuZu, and MyMy. Not to mention his Duke!
My Grandad was a pretty cool man and someone who is truly admirable. He is now in peace and no longer suffering. The hard part is over and cheers to a new lifetime for him.
Big up to you, Grandad! You fought through this lifetime with your squeaky, shiny boxing gloves. The true champion.
His family will continue to honor his memory and cherish the legacy he leaves behind.
He will be lovingly remembered by his family and all who knew and loved him.
