Iam Imus Bey was born on December 7th, 1971 in Cleveland, OH. He was the son of Deborah Chapman (deceased) and Leonard Freeman Bey (deceased). Preceded in death by his loving brother (Leonard Bey II). Iam spent his childhood between Cleveland, OH, and Los Angeles, CA. Iam graduated from Collinwood High School in 1989. Following high school, Iam studied at Cuyahoga Community College. From there Iam launched into an entrepreneurial career where he built and fixed computers. We often remember hearing “Ambitionz Az A Ridah” playing when we were in the basement watching him fix computers. He was a great teacher. A man of many talents – from a computer whiz to a master on the grill. He was extremely artistic; he used to draw our school projects for us. He was a comedian at his very core. Iam was loved by everybody, his family, his friends, and his children were his life. Nothing gave Iam more joy than cooking and playing UNO with his kids and first grandchild Harlow. He was the first person people called when they needed help or a listening ear. Iam loved spending time on Lake Erie to enjoy the weather. On a Saturday morning in the summer, he could be found on the lake fishing with his buddies. Iam showed his love through cooking for his kids, sharing his music. Iam loved water, he knew how to swim. One time, we went to a water park, and my brother thought he was drowning. My dad was trying to relax on the lazy river, so when he heard my brother screaming, he turned around and yelled “Stand up!” My brother then replied “Oh” as he realized he was, in fact, not drowning. Kind. Humble. Respectful. Honest. Funny. Goofy. A Champion. Outgoing. Personable. Selfless. Big-hearted. He was an avid Cleveland Sports fan; he never gave up on the Cavs/Browns. Iam started dialysis at the young age of 19. He had countless surgeries, procedures, and health issues throughout his life. Yet, he never let that stop him or keep him down. He was the strongest person I have ever known, and the best father I could have asked for. He was the life of the party. The light in a dark room. People loved being in his life and in his company. He had the most infectious personality and laugh. He was the most incredible person. Iam is survived by his sons: Natrell M. Lewis, Iam C. Bey, Ian C. Bey, and his daughter Naya N. Scipio (and partner Elton Holifield Jr). He is survived by his first, and only grandchild, Harlow J. Holifield. He is survived by his children’s mother, Nicole L. Scipio. He is survived by his father-in-law, Michael E. Scipio, his sister Joy Tovar, his nephew Leonard B. Bey II, his niece Mona Lisa Tovar, and a host of other family members and friends. Iam will forever be remembered as his sons’ best friend and his daughters’ first love and best friend. Though he is no longer with us, his spirit will forever live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved him. Iam Bey, may you rest in eternal peace.
