On April 24, 2019, Iboyiba Amabe, aka Alberta McClellan Jenkins-Smith, went home to be with the Lord after a long illness, at the blessed age of 95. She was residing at Ohio Living Rockynol when she died.
Alberta, daughter of the late Albert McClellan and Augusta Allen McClellan, was born on April 10, 1924 in Birmingham, Alabama. She was educated at the Shelby County Training School in Columbiana, Alabama. She was the wife of the late Jessie Jenkins when she became the proud mother of 3 lovely daughters, Augusta, Elnora and Josephine.
Alberta, affectionately know as Sister Amabe, Sister Smith, Mother and Mom, accepted Christ at an early age. She devoted herself to a life of service to God. Early in her life, she became a member of the Christian Alliance Holiness Church where she served faithfully, encouraging others to accept Christ. She was the Sunday School Superintendent. She loved children and for a number of years supervised her church’s daycare center. She had a love for cooking and the food was very good.
Upon leaving Christian Alliance, she became a member of Saints Temple, under the leadership of the late Bishop E. D. McKenzie. Later in her life, she became a member of the Faith Place, First Apostolic Faith Church of Akron, Ohio where she was embraced with fellowship and love.
Alberta’s three daughters preceded her in death; Augusta Armstrong, Elnora and Josephine McClellan.
She is survived by her four grandchildren, Jacqueline (Quentin) Johnson, Franklin (Katrina) Armstrong, Brian (Culenthia) Armstrong and Audrey Armstong; and a host of great grandchildren. She asked to have as her adopted children, James and Nancy Reed; very special friends, Allen and Doris Wilson, J’Wami & L’Ouida Cames and Pearl Bronner.
