Inez Brown “Nee” Chambliss transitioned from her earthly home and gained her wings in Heaven on December 22, 2019 at Copley Healthcare.
Inez was born on September 1, 1926, to Richard and Marie Chambliss in Sylacauga, Alabama. She was one daughter of five children. Later in her childhood, her mother remarried and she was raised by her loving step-father, Onley Peavy. While growing up in Alabama, Inez accepted the Lord Jesus Christ at a young age and became active in her church. In her late teens, Inez and her family relocated to Akron, Ohio, where she attended and graduated from Central High School. After graduating, Inez met and married the love of her life and husband of 61 years, Robert J. Brown in the early 1950’s. She made him a “Sr.” when she gave birth to their first child and only son, Robert J. Brown Jr. Thirteen years later, they became the parents of a girl, their only daughter, and named her Rita. Inez was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and friend. She also became a member of the social club, “The Suburbanites”.
In 1968, she became employed by Summit County Board of Children’s Services, where she was affectionately known as “Ma Brown” by the children she worked with and mentored as a house-parent. Retiring after 20 years of service, she become a stay-at-home grandma for her grandchildren. She could often be found enjoying activities with her family, especially her grandchildren. Cooking and shopping were among her favorite activities.
Later in her life, Inez became a member of St. Paul Missionary Baptist Church, under the pastoral leadership of Reverend Clifton Norwood, where she attended regularly until her health failed.
Inez was preceded in death by her father, Richard; her parents, Onley and Marie; sisters, Bunt, Willie Effie (Will), Mary (P.C.), Myrtle (Paul); in-laws, Aurelia (Robert) and Sam (Bernice).
She leaves to mourn her passing son, Robert Jr. (Carol) and daughter, Rita (Brown) Young; grandchildren, April and Tiffany Brown and Ynez, Jazmyn, Robert Sr. and Robyn Young; great grandchildren, Terrence, Tremaine, Aijah, Robert Jr, August, Harmony and Kenneth; several nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.
