Ira C. Lee, a shining beacon of positivity and independence, passed away peacefully at the age of 95. His departure on August 14, 2023, leaves a void in the hearts of those who had the privilege of knowing and loving him. Ira’s life was an inspiring testament to the power of a positive outlook and the importance of kindness.

Ira was a true embodiment of self-sufficiency, never letting age define his capabilities. Up until just three weeks ago, he remained a marvel of independence, engaging in daily tasks with enthusiasm and a sense of purpose. His hands-on approach to life included driving, cooking, cleaning, and managing every aspect of his world. His determination and spirit were truly awe-inspiring.

One of Ira’s endearing qualities was his unwavering positivity. He had a unique ability to uplift the spirits of those around him, turning even the most mundane moments into joyful occasions. One of his favorite sayings, “I’m not trying to get in your business, but that doesn’t sound like a good idea,” encapsulated his genuine concern for others’ well-being, delivered with a dash of humor. His infectious laughter and quiet sense of humor left an indelible mark on everyone fortunate enough to cross his path.

An ardent supporter of Cleveland sports, Ira’s passion for his local team and sports was only matched by his zest for life. He never allowed age to hinder his engagement with the world around him. With a memory as sharp as his wit, he was known to reminisce about decades-old games and events, often reminding others of cherished moments long forgotten. His storytelling was a cherished gift that bridged generations and preserved memories. He was known for making and sharing his homemade wine each year for Christmas.

Ira’s generosity and kindness knew no bounds. He treated everyone he encountered with respect and warmth, radiating a genuine care for humanity. His life was a testament to the power of empathy, and his legacy of kindness will continue to inspire those who were fortunate to know him.

Ira was a graduate of East High School where he lettered in track in 1947. He served in the United States Army from 1952-1954, during the Korean War, and he worked for Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company from which he retired after 35 years of service.

Ira was married to Carolyn Stokes and from this union two children were born, son Dennis K. Lee and daughter Dana K. (Lee) LaGarde.

Ira was preceded in death by his father Willie D. Lee and mother Amanda Ida Lee, sister Mary Mariner, brothers Willie J. Lee, Shelton Lee, and Walter Lee. Ira leaves behind a cherished family, including son Dennis Lee, daughter Dana and husband Frank G. LaGarde Sr., grandson Frank LaGarde Jr and wife Jennifer Dullen LaGarde, granddaughter Dionna Walling and husband Marwin Walling Sr., great-granddaughter Hunter R. Roberts, great-grandsons Marwin “MJ” Walling Jr., and Micah Walling, brother Kenneth R. Lee and wife Beverly Lee, sisters-in-law Mary Lee and Wilhelmina Stokes, and a host of nieces and nephews.

As we say goodbye to Ira, we remember the full and blessed life he led. His laughter and light-heartedness brought joy to all occasions, making even the simplest gatherings feel special. His departure leaves a void that can never be filled, but his memory will remain a source of comfort and inspiration.

Ira Lee’s legacy will live on in the stories shared by those who knew him, the lessons he imparted, and the kindness he spread. May his journey beyond this world be as bright as the spirit he shared with us all.
