Iroland Steven Hampton Sr,. known to his family and friends as “Pookie”, was born August 29, 1964 to Doretha Metcalf and Iroland Jones who both preceded him in death. Iroland was later adopted by his grandmother Alberta Jones (RP Jones). Pookie began his education in the city’s local school system and later graduated from John Marshal High School “Go Lawyers”.
Pookie went on to complete basic training in the army reserves but opted out to focus on family. Pookie became employed by Mr. Bernie and Mrs. Rose Wong at an exceptional Asian cuisine restaurant known as the Pearl of the Orient, whose doors stayed open for 43 years. Pookie worked 33 of those years. Besides his love for the workforce nothing or no one could keep Pookie from his family and dancing, both of which he loved wholeheartedly. Pookie, the compassionate soul he was, always saw the good in people.
Pookie’s cherished memories will live on in his children’s mothers, Virna Beulah and Teresa Spooner, a daughter Tierra Hampton, 2 sons Iroland Steven Hampton Jr. and Nathaniel Spooner. 7 grandchildren Tymere Garrett, Iasiah Stuart, Isaac Stuart Jr., Tavion Dillion, Amelia Hampton, Ehlani Hampton, Emari Hampton. 2 sisters Roshell Dickerson and Joann Hampton, brother Edward Jones 2 nephews Robert “ fixie” Meredith and Martell Dickerson 2 nieces Latoya Dickerson and Sharnelle Hampton-Holiday. 9 great nieces and nephews and a great great niece and cousins who loved him dearly and a host of family and friends.
