Ivy S. (Walters) Baity was born on January 19, 1946, in Dooly County, Georgia to Bessie Walters and Danny Walters. She grew up in Akron, OH, and attended Akron Public Schools graduating from South High School in 1966. In 1967 she married her high school sweetheart Elbert L Suttles, Sr. To that union was born Elbert L. Suttles, Junior. Although the marriage did not last, the two remained close friends until his death. She later married Leroy Baity. To that union was born LeMorris Baity. Ivy raised Elbert’s children, Sierria and Elbert III (Mann), but she also helped raise some of her many grandchildren, LeThai, LeShai, LeMai, LeMorris, and LeKhai; and nephew, King Totch Walters.
Ivy worked for St. Thomas as a nurse assistant until her health failed and she was forced to retire. She was a volunteer for the Shelton Temple Food Bank. Ivy loved the Lord and always sent her children and grandchildren to church. She was a member of St. John C. M. E. Church. Ivy’s house was always filled with children and love. One thing you could say about Ivy was that she loved and helped her family whenever she could, and she made it a point to know everyone’s business.
Ivy was preceded in death by her parents, Danny Walters and Bessie Walters; the fathers of her children, Elbert Suttles, Sr., and Leroy Baity; both her sons, Elbert Suttles, Jr. and LeMorris Baity; her siblings, Joyce Walters, Eddie Charles “E.C.” Walters, Leon “Totch” Walters, James “J.D.” Walters and Clifford Walters.
Ivy leaves to mourn her passing, her bonus mother, Gwendolyn Walters; aunt, Lena Reddick; siblings, William (Sandra) Spivey, Danny (Yolanda) Walters, Estelle Walters-Davis, Frederick “Ted” (Debra) Walters, James (Ivory) Walters, Mark “Carlos” Walters, Daryl Walters, and Debra Walters-Graves (Jerry) Hudson; special nephew, King Totch (Tiffany) Walters; special “ride or die” cousin, Selma (Charles) Walker; special friends, Sandra Wyatt and Rose Green-Lively; special sister-in-law, Janice Suttles; grandchildren, LeThai, LeShai, LeMorris, Jr., LeMhai, LeKhai, DaQuan, DeMorris, LeLonda, TaKeena, LeMonica Baity, Sierra, Elbert Jr. (Marisa), Nathan (Kate), Carmen, and Lauren Suttles; and a host of great-grandchildren, relatives, and friends.
