Jacqueline Chambers was born Jacqueline Murphy on September 18, 1932 to Beatrice Cauthern and William Murphy in the city of Atlanta GA, One of 6 children, she attended Booker T. Washington High School with a desire to graduate and become a nurse. God had another plan however and blessed her to serve for Him by caring for those in need from her heart.
On April 14, 1948, Jacqueline married the love of her life, Jesse Paul Chambers. They relocated to Cleveland, OH in the 1950’s and brought 7 covenant and 2 bonus children into the world, teaching them all about the love of God, respect for others, a good work ethic, family, and fun. Generations of family and close friends gathered at their home to eat until they were stuffed, laugh until they cried, and leave with their plates and hearts full.
Jacqueline worked in the cafeteria at Ford Motor Company in Walton Hills, OH until her retirement in 1994, but her love for cooking along with skills in decorating and floral arranging led her to a path of catering. She facilitated weddings, anniversaries, school events, and church events, and was as famous for her Spencer beef and Homemade rolls as she was for her signature laugh and expressions of love.
Jacqueline’s heart’s desire was always to be closer to God. It was at The New Hope Baptist Church in Atlanta, GA that Jacqueline accepted Jesus Christ as her personal Lord and Savior at the age of 15, playing and singing in the music ministry until she relocated to Cleveland and joined Triumph the Church and Kingdom of God in Christ, continuing in service until she left in 2021 to fellowship with her sons Elder Bernard and Anthony at St. James Church of God in Christ. She loved church and you could always find her there dressed sharp as a tack; dancing, rejoicing, and singing His praises. All that met Jacqueline knew 2 things about her: She loved the Lord, and she loved His people. As a wise and virtuous woman of God, she always had an encouraging word, listening ear, joke to make you laugh, hug, kiss, piece of money, or prayer at her ready. She impacted all that met her including her medical staff, some of which called her “Mom Chambers”. She gave tirelessly of herself without complaint and whether visiting family, enjoying an outing, or shopping at her favorite thrift store, she lived life to its fullest starting and ending each day with thanksgiving and prayers for all that she loved.
Jacqueline’s beloved husband of 72 years, Jesse Paul preceded her in death, as did 2 of their children, Michael and Ronald, and her 5 siblings Nathaniel, Nervie James, Lucille, Jimmie Mae, and Alice. She was the matriarch of 5 generations, leaving behind 7 children: Robert and wife Lavonne, Bernard and wife Vivian, Brenda, Unnita, Jamelle, Anthony and wife Jacqueline, and Velita; a legacy of 18 Grandchildren, 36 Great Grandchildren, 6 Great-Great Grandchildren and a host of friends whose lives have been changed by knowing her. She will never, ever be forgotten.
Respectfully submitted,
